Mixing In Cozy Fall Decor
Are you enjoying fall weather where you live? Fall is about arrive where I live with lots of rain tomorrow. Yay, I’m so ready! After tweaking a few fall accents over the weekend, I’m finally sharing photos of our family room. My crazy schedule seems to be limiting my decorating opportunities, so I’m just mixing in a few seasonal changes here and there to make the family room feel cozy.
On my to-do list, I’m freshening up the mantel and coffee table while changing bits of color around on the room. Here’s my short list of fall accents.
- faux flowers for the mantel
- candles in a fall color
- pumpkins or gourds
- fresh fall flower arrangement
- plaid tray
- switch out pillow covers and throw
Fall Mantel Decor
By adding just a little bit of color on the mantel, it is already feeling more like fall. I have harvest yellow candles in taper holders on one side, teaming up with a wicker demijohn for texture.
In the faux arrangement on the other side, I’m adding a few black-eyed Susan flowers, but keeping the green stems a bit longer. Our trees don’t start changing color until late October or early November depending on when our first freeze arrives. So instead of over complicating seasonal decorating, I’m just letting it flow.
Fall Coffee Table Decorating
On the coffee table I’m using the same oversized wicker tray as in my coastal family room styling post, which you can see here. I find that using trays is one of the easiest ways to style a coffee table, entry table or even your kitchen counter. Trying something different for a fall look, I’m adding an antique tea box with a rich wood color and aged patina to the tray. This was one of my mom’s favorite pieces that she bought in New Orleans, and I’m enjoying it so much on the coffee table. Next to the tea box I’m squeezing in a fall plaid ceramic tray, and some of my favorite little gourds. I’m also adding a book for a spot to place a plant or flower arrangement.
Speaking of flowers just look at these beauties from Trader Joe’s. I’m feeling so lucky to find dahlias, since most of the surrounding grocery stores never have them. Don’t you just love these gorgeous colors? This has all the fall feels for me. When I don’t have fresh flowers to display, I move my little fern back to this spot, so I have something green to liven up the room. By the way did you spot my one and only pumpkin yet? It’s on the narrow table next to the fireplace. 😉
Switching Pillow Covers And Throws
Switching out pillow covers and throw blankets is an easy way to change up the colors in a room. I wouldn’t say that any of these pillow covers are necessarily fall, but their colors work with the cozy mood of the room. My favorite is the brown and cream block print on the leather sofa.
I’m also bringing in a blue knitted throw on the ottoman for color that mingles with the blue rug and credenza. As for the sweet fur baby napping on the floor, I couldn’t resist including him in the photo shoot too.
