DIY Paper Stars For Christmas. Today I’m sharing how to make paper stars out of wrapping paper, that you can display on your Christmas tree or on gifts. This is a simple project that I think you’ll enjoy plus it’s a good way to use up those odd pieces of wrapping paper that you might have left over.

DIY Paper Stars For Christmas
Last week after I shared my post, Woodland Theme Christmas Home Tour, and I had a few questions about these stars. So today I’m sharing a short tutorial, just in case you want to make some too. Here’s a short list of supplies, which may be the shortest list I’ve had for any of my projects.
Shop Supplies
- wrapping paper or craft paper
- scissors
- stick glue
- twine or string
Instructions
First start by cutting out two pieces of paper that are the same size. The two pieces of wrapping paper I’m starting with are about 6 inches square.
Next fold your two pieces of paper so they look like a fan or an accordion. Then fold those two pieces of paper in the center to form a V shape.
Cut a piece of string or twine about 12 to 18 inches long, so that you can tie the two folded pieces of paper together to form the center of the star. By the way, I’m using hemp twine, which is very thin and good for all kinds of small projects.
With the two pieces tied together, you can cut the ends of the paper to taper into a point or a rounded shape. The rounded shape is pretty, but I think the pointed ends look more like stars.
To vary the size of your paper stars, trim a little more off the paper ends when you’re creating your points or rounded edges.
Glue your four sections together using a glue stick to complete your star shape. The last step is to tie the ends of the string together to use as a hanger and trim off any excess string.
Most of the stars on my tree are just sitting or wedged in the branches, but a few are hanging. This is an easy way to coordinate your wrapping paper with your tree decor or just use up any extra paper you have left over.
Decorating With Paper Stars
The main reason why I love these stars, is that they fill up empty spaces on the tree while providing more colors and patterns. Originally, I was just going to use the multi colored paper with the reindeer, because it goes so well with the colors of my woodland theme this year. Then I thought about how much I love incorporating plaid, and I ended up mixing in the green plaid paper as well.
I think the two patterns look so pretty on our tree, and I love using them on a few presents as well. You may want to hang them on your mantel or in front of your windows.
Of course the sky’s the limit when it comes to what kind of paper you want to use to make your stars. Just remember to have fun with it, and maybe get the kids involved as well.
