Cottage Styling Fall Home Tour. As we anticipate the arrival of the first day autumn, I want to welcome you to Thistle Key Lane with our fall home tour. The tour includes simple cottage styling with muted fall colors and patterns. Plus all the autumn accents and textures we love so much.
2024 Autumn Home Tours
I’m so happy to be participating in the 2024 Autumn Home Tours today. My friend Cindy over at County Road 407 is hosting our home tours, and I’m excited to visit my friend’s lovely homes decked in fall splendor. You’ll find all the blog links for everyone participating today at the end of my post.
If you are popping in from Postcards From The Ridge make yourself at home. Don’t you just love Angie’s fall home tour? So fresh and inviting as always!
Cottage Styling Fall Home Tour
We won’t be enjoying fall like weather for another month or so, but concentrating on seasonal changes sure seems to take our minds off the heat for a bit. As we transition from summer to fall there are subtle decor changes I’m integrating into our family room and kitchen. Here are a few cottage style elements to look for.
- muted fall colors of tan, brown, clay and blue
- variety of patterns on pillow covers
- cozy soft throw blankets
- fall leaves
- fresh and dried flowers
- pumpkins, gourds, pinecones and acorns
- textural accents
Fall Mantel
Our tour begins in the family room with the fall mantel. I like keeping the mantel decor simple, opting for an asymmetrical display. On the left side is a tall vase with muted faux leaf branches. The other side of the mantel is a eclectic mix of candles, books and a dried floral arrangement under a glass cloche.
Did you notice I’m using a terracotta saucer turned upside down for the platform. How easy is that?! To see how to create a dried floral cloche arrangement, you can click on my post here.
I plan on using more colored candles like these in my vignettes and tablescapes this fall. Don’t you just love that little hint of ocher color?
Fall Table Top, Coffee Table & Bar Cart
Just like the mantel I’m keeping the fall table top decor to just a few seasonal items that mix with our everyday decor. On the slender credenza by the arm chair, I’m tucking in a pumpkin on the lower shelf for a little pop of green.
Oversized acorns which are made from wooden eggs are resting in a leaf shape bowl along with mini pine cones. You can find my tutorial to make these acorns in my post here.
The coffee table styling has more of that cottage feel I’m enjoying so much these days. A simple round wicker tray is loaded with interesting textures and shapes of gourds and pumpkins. I have to admit I do have a thing for dried gourds. Be sure to check out my recent post, Warm and Cozy Fall Entryway, for more gourd display ideas.
Over on the bar cart, I’m using a crock as a vase for a pretty mix of fresh flowers, which sits on a green wicker tray surrounded by pine cones. I’m loving this layered look, and the happy energy the fresh flowers, and green pumpkins bring into the room.
Old seltzer bottles and the zinc drawer holding liquor bottles adds vintage character to the bar cart. Since the liquor bottles have a permanent home on the bottom shelf, the top shelf is the ideal place for seasonal decor.
Fall Colors and Patterns
One of my favorite ways of decorating for fall is updating the pillow covers. Muted shades of tan, brown, clay and blue in fun pillow patterns mix so easily together.
I love using a variety of patterns such as geometric, floral, plaid and stripes. This plaid pillow cover definitely has all the muted fall colors I’m loving this season.
Cottage Kitchen And Breakfast Table
Now we are heading over to the kitchen area. My arrangement of orange alstroemeria, that I have enjoyed for several weeks are starting to fade. Time to go foraging for something new to display. The stick vase is one of my recent projects you can see here and make one for yourself. 😉
Our kitchen was painted this last spring, and I still love walking in here every morning for my daily cup of brew. Depending on the time of day and the light streaming in, the cabinets may look green, blue or gray. Crazy right?! You can check out my post Kitchen Counter Vintage Styling for more photos.
Simple white pumpkins give a little nod to fall without overcrowding. Since I don’t have a lot of kitchen counter space I’m using ceramic and wood trays to keep the clutter under control.

Next up on our tour of homes is Barb of French Ethereal, sharing pretty florals and creamy pumpkins. Now grab a cup of coffee and settle in to click through all the links below. I have no doubt you will find tons of autumn decorating ideas that you can use in your home.

I always love your style. How it’s organized, organic, and cozy. Glad I saw the adorable tiny gourds. And how fun to sneak in a white pumpkin among the onions! I think I need to do that and see what the hubs says. LOL! Love your countertops too. Everything is lovely. Thank you for joining in! pinned

Michelle, I love the soft blues, clays, tans and browns in your fall decorating! The two plaid pillows look really inviting ~ nice to lay down and fall asleep while a game is on during the weekend! I love this time of year for pulling out all of our pumpkins, faux or real, and layering them around. 🙂
I hope you have the best fall season,
Hugs,
Barb 🙂

Michelle, your home is always so tastefully decorated and spotless! Send your cleaning fairies my way please 🙏 🙂 I adore your mantel, the colored candles and the cloche (what a clever trick to use a terracotta platter as a base!) The baskets of Fall goodies and your gorgeous kitchen are all decorated to perfection!

Beautifully decorated for fall! Seeing the horse sculpture remind me of a heavy iron animal one we have from my husband’s childhood home. I’m going get it out and use it this season. Thanks for the inspiration. from Farmhouse Friday #120,121,122
