Seasonal Saturdays
I’m joining Amber of Follow The Yellow Brick Home plus four more of my blogging friends for a Seasonal Saturdays post. We still have so many holiday ideas to share, before many of us take off to spend time with family. If you are popping in from Shiplap and Shells welcome to Thistle Key Lane. I adore Kim’s beautiful holiday bedroom decorations, and I bet you do too. You will find links to everyone’s blog at the end of my post.
Holiday Dining Room With Festive Greenery
Our holiday dining room feels extra festive this year with touches of greenery on every surface. You can’t miss the garland on the chandelier, which I’m really loving by the way. For this simple look, I’m using two Norfolk pine garlands which are casually laid on top of the chandelier arms.
For color and softness, I have three long lengths of blue velvet ribbon, that creates interesting swags. The ribbon stays in place by tucking it under the garland. Easy peasy!
By the way, I would love any opinions you might have on chandelier shades. Are they in or out right now? If they are in, I’m wondering if this chandelier needs a little dressing up. Suggestions please!
Holiday Buffet with Festive Greenery
I think you can tell how much I love to decorate with greenery, which continues to be at the top of my “must haves list” for Christmas and winter decor. On the buffet, I have a very simple arrangement of evergreens in the sweetest vintage vase. More greenery around the base of the lamp brings a little extra attention to the left side of the buffet.
To simplify the holiday decorating, I’m mostly dressing up my everyday decor. On a whim, I’m adding some faux greenery napkin rings to my trio of tall candle holders. Who knew faux greenery napkin rings could be so useful. Be sure to check out my recent Christmas home tour here, to see how they look on vintage seltzer bottles.
Holiday Tablescape
Our holiday centerpiece starts with an everyday modern style shallow bowl. I’m nestling classic gold and silver ornaments with lots of pinecones with layers of faux cedar, juniper and pine. Tiny ornaments in brown, burgundy, green, silver and gold fill in any remaining gaps for the finishing touch.
Every Christmas I love adding a wee bit of plaid to our holiday table, so I’m doubling up on the napkins. Two napkins one plaid and one with a blue blocked flower print, add an unexpected look to each place setting. For another interesting twist I’m adding blue velvet ribbon to each of the silver napkin rings.
I’m dressing up my everyday white dishes with my grandma’s sterling silverware. It’s a mixed set that I just adore using because it reminds me of her, my mom and holidays growing up. These are the special touches that bring me happiness, when setting the table for special occasions.
I think you’ll agree, that repeating the greenery and the blue velvet ribbon, really helps to tie the buffet, chandelier and table decorations together. For more greenery, ribbon and plaid ideas check out these posts.

Michelle I love all of the natural elements you’ve added into the dining room. The mercury ornaments add just the right amount of sparkle and shine. Happy Christmas!
Thank you Laura! I’m so happy you like the centerpiece. Happy Christmas!
Michelle, your dining room is gorgeous with all your pretty accessories, greenery and mercury glass. I love how you layered the napkins on each place setting too. Such a cute idea! So great to hop with you – Merry Christmas!
Shelley
Thank you Shelley! I had so much fun trying new ways to decorate this year. Great to hop with you too! Merry Christmas!
I think your dining room is absolutely perfect! Sprucing up everyday pieces is the way to go. The time it saves is great and you have to store so much less! I love it. I either see way to much blue or not enough in a lot of homes but I feel you have just the right amount. And girl, your grandmother’s sterling is amazing! I’ve never seen that pattern and I love how you’ve mixed them. The only thing I have from my grandma is a quilt that I cherish, making the memories priceless too. Hope you have a wonderful holiday season. Merry Christmas! pinned
I appreciate the sweet comments so much Cindy! Decorating the dining room this year was like a new adventure for me. I’m so happy it turned out as well as it did! Big hugs, and Merry Christmas my friend!
Okay Michelle, you have just helped me solve a dilemma! I have been staring at two Norfolk pine garlands in the floor for a week trying to decide where to put them. I have some older pine greenery on mine right now, but I love how the Norfolk pine looks on yours AND the droopy ribbon! I may do the same and I will definitely credit you in my post!
Your simple decor always is perfection! I love all of the greenery and the pretty napkins. I am also using little wreath napkin rings on candles.
As far as lamp shades, I think they are definitely “in” but I also think the chandeliers look great as in the candleabra style unadorned for Christmas. I found 11 little shades at a thrift shop for a .25 each and used four of them last year on my wall sconces in the foyer. This year I took them off for Christmas but I might paint them and put them back on.
Can’t wait to see more of your holiday decor this year!
Merry Christmas!
Yay! I’m happy to have sparked an idea for your Christmas decorating! Of course, I always get inspired with your ideas, and I appreciate the feedback on the shades so much! I’m looking forward to seeing more of your holiday decorations too! Merry Christmas Amber!
Your festive dining room is absolutely gorgeous, Michelle! I’m obsessed with the way you layered the plaid and block-print napkins—such a clever detail and something you don’t see very often. So charming! I also love how you mixed greenery into the rest of your holiday décor, especially on the light fixture. And that blue palette… so fresh and calming. Everything came together beautifully. Thanks for the inspiration. Merry Christmas, my friend!
Thank you so much Kim for the sweet comments! I hope you are having a wonderful holiday season my friend! Merry Christmas!
