Simple Vintage Holiday Kitchen Ideas
I often feel very wistful during the holidays, and enjoy decorating with items from my childhood or current vintage collections. Here’s a quick roundup of items you will see in our small cottage style kitchen this year. Many are just ordinary everyday items, although they fit right in with my Christmassy decorations.
- Santa cake mold
- mini Santa mugs and creamers
- French flower pot
- 1/2 peck wooden box
- French transferware plates
- copper molds
- stocking stretcher
Holiday Coffee Bar
With limited kitchen counter space, I’m trying it keep the holiday decorations to a minimum. That’s why I’m taking advantage of the coffee bar which is the best spot for a cheery vignette.
First, I’m switching out the artwork for a fun cookie watercolor of mine. Next, I’m arranging my vignette on a ceramic tray starting with the handsome 1940’s Santa cake mold. For the mini Santa mugs, I’m keeping those safely tucked into a jar along with a few tiny creamers. One thing I love about these Santa mugs is that each one is sightly different.
You know me, I gotta have greenery somewhere. So on the cake pedestal, I’m displaying a faux cedar tree in one of my vintage French flower pots. Plaid coffee mugs with red and white napkins, as well as the tiny flameless candle add a jolly touch to the vignette. Be sure to check out my post here to make your own flameless candle holder.
Wall Plate Rack Tree Shape
To satisfy my own amusement, I’m rearranging the vintage plates on the wall display rack to create a tree shape. I’m always admiring similar holiday displays like this in magazines, although I feel like it still needs a little something. I’ll probably be tweaking it up until the big day LOL!
For the time being, I’m only using a few of my vintage copper pieces on the plate rack hooks. The three remaining create the base of my tree. What do you think hit or miss? To see before photos with my handmade stockings click on my post here.
I’ve had this 1/2 peck wood box for more than 20 years, but this is the first time I’m using it to hold a tree. I’m loving how cute the faux tree looks with the dried orange slices and pinecones.
Vintage Door Decoration
Instead of a wreath I’m using a wood stocking stretcher with ribbon and greenery. It’s such a simple door decoration, and I’m loving how it looks on the green pantry door. I hope to buy a few next year, and have a collection of three to group together. They shouldn’t take up too much storage space, but then again I might find a spot to display them year round. Now I’m thinking!
