Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Pie Recipe. Today I’m sharing an easy recipe that is sure to please any chocolate or pecan pie lover you’re entertaining around the holidays. This recipe is similar to a traditional pecan pie with the addition of dark chocolate and a hint of bourbon, turning a delicious pie into a decadent dessert.
From the very first bite you’ll taste the crispy pecan topping followed by the rich dark chocolate center and flaky crust. The hint of bourbon is barely there, but somehow balances the flavors so it’s not too sweet.
Pinterest Challenge
It’s Pinterest Challenge time and we’re sharing Thanksgiving recipes. This group really knows how to cook and bake, so I’m sure you will find loads of recipes you’ll want to try.
If this is your first time joining us for a Pinterest Challenge, this is how it works. Our host Cindy over at County Road 407, selects a photo for us to recreate, and each participant puts their own spin on the photo. The exception this month is that we’re in the kitchen whipping up recipes instead of decorating.
If you’re popping in from Decor to Adore, welcome to Thistle Key Lane. Laura’s pork loin, roasted vegetables and cranberry compote sounds divine. Maybe I should beg an invite this year.
All the links for everyone participating in our Pinterest challenge is at the end of my post. To see last year’s October PC click on Cranberry Orange Margarita Recipe.
Holiday Baking
Pumpkin pie will always be my favorite pie for Thanksgiving, but this recipe keeps my team pecan pie family members very happy. Of course I’m a chocolate lover, so I have a little slice of both.
There are some things I do really well in the kitchen, but making a pretty pie crust is not one of them. I’m also not able to slice a pie in equal portions to save my life. On the upside, my family knows that my pies are delicious and made with love which is all that matters.😉
Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Pie Recipe
- 1 store bought pie crust
- 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
- 3/4 cup light corn syrup
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons bourbon
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips
- 1-1/2 cup pecan halves
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Prepare store bought pie crust in a 9″ pie dish according to manufacturer’s instructions. Place in the refrigerator while you’re preparing the pie filling.
- In a medium size bowl mix together dark brown sugar, light corn syrup, melted butter and salt. Add beaten eggs and combine well.
- Stir in vanilla extract and bourbon followed by the dark chocolate chips and pecan halves.
- Pour into the chilled pie crust making sure the chocolate chips and pecan halves are evenly distributed. Use a spoon to help arrange the pecans so that the top of the pie is covered.
- Place on the center rack in a preheated oven and bake for 40 minutes. Remove from the oven and place on a cooling rack.
- Pie needs to cool completely before trying to slice. Serve at room temperature. Cover and store in the refrigerator.
Recipe Notes
For this recipe you can substitute granulated sugar or light brown sugar for the dark brown sugar. If you make that substitution I suggest using dark corn syrup instead of light.
For a dairy free recipe, substitute margarine for butter and look for dairy free dark chocolate chips.
On a personal note, I still swear by Pillsbury pie crusts. My mom often said, she could hardly make one better, and the convenience at holiday time wins out. I couldn’t agree more.
After you try this recipe, I think you’ll agree that it doesn’t require a topping of whipped cream or ice cream. It is a truly delicious dessert all on its own.

As someone who owns her own pecan grove I am over the moon to try this recipe, Michelle! We’ve always had the traditional pecan pie but I was just telling one of my sisters the other day that we should branch out and make something different this year so your recipe is perfectly timed. It looks amazing! Big hugs, CoCo
