It’s time for our white and gray bathroom makeover reveal, and I’m so happy with the results. My vision of a beautiful spa inspired bathroom is now a reality. The update, took about eight weeks from start to finish, but the plan of it has been swirling around in my head for years.
White And Gray Bathroom Makeover Reveal
I mentioned in my last post, Organizing A Master Bathroom Linen Closet, that we’ve been longing to update our bathroom for the last 18 years. With such a long time to wait, I can definitely say I didn’t have to make any last minute rash decisions.
As you can see in the uninspiring before photo of the bathroom there are no redeeming features to miss. The plain builder grade cabinets and ceramic tile are very drab and boring.
In the grand scheme of renovations, I can say this bathroom makeover is very simple. We didn’t have to move or change any permanent walls, pluming or electricity. The floor plan is basically the same as before, and I can’t wait to share a few of the highlights with you. Are you ready?
Trends come and go, but I think our bathroom will have longevity with the classic style of materials that make up the new space. Here’s a list of the new items and materials in the bathroom.
- tile
- cabinets
- mirrors
- reconfigure shower with half walls
- frameless shower glass and door
- cabinet hardware
- faucets and fixtures
- wall towel rack
Picking Out Tile
The Mister and I went on several field trips to look at tile, and I quickly realized that we were on the same wave length. Boy that sure helps in making the process enjoyable.
We love the marble look of the gray and white porcelain tile. The dimensions are 12″ x 24″ and this particular one comes with seven different tile patterns.
Using one type of tile on the floor and the surrounding shower walls makes our medium size bathroom look more spacious.
In the shower we have Siberian pearl mosaic marble as an accent on the wall and on the floor. I have to tell you, every time I step into the shower my heart skips a beat. The mix of warm and cool colors in the marble are so beautiful, and I love the feel of it under my feet.
Small gray grout lines instead of white between the tiles, also aids in creating a more cohesive look to the room.
Paint Color
Picking the tile out first makes selecting paint colors for cabinets so much easier. I love the soft color of Silverplate by Sherwin Williams which brings out those mid shades of gray in the tile.
The new paint color for the walls is Sherwin Williams Pure White. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I wish I could repaint the whole house again in this color. We just had the house painted less than a year ago, but I love this brighter color so much better. Live and learn I always say. LOL!
Quartz Countertop and Accents
Deciding on using quartz countertop for the bathroom took about a nanosecond. In truth I never really considered using anything else.
In addition to using quartz for the countertop we also have quartz for the shower bench, threshold and on the top of each pony wall. Using it in the shower really helps the flow of these two areas, and I’m so glad our contractor made that suggestion.
Another great suggestion is hiding the shower cubby so that our products are not visible from the door way.
Monochromatic Materials
I love the look of mixing metals, but decided to stay with polished chrome hardware, towel rack and fixtures like our other bathrooms. It just seems to make since to keep the style of our home consistent, and not make it something that it’s not.
What do you think about these gorgeous mirrors? I think they give the bathroom a little touch of glam with the champagne silver brushed finish. Sometimes the little things can have the most impact.
Organic Touches
With so many hard surfaces in the bathroom, it was begging for some organic touches and texture. Adding the wicker trash bin, the monstera plant in a basket and even the cane chair adds some earthy colors and textures. Don’t you love these additions too?
Custom Cabinets
We have so much more storage with the configuration of our new cabinets. We each have three drawers in addition to the under the sink cabinets. The middle section that was once a vanity, now has a big pull out hamper which was another one of those smart suggestions from our contractor.
Having a hamper is a much better use of the space, since it was never used as a sit down vanity anyway. Speaking of features, be sure to check out how peel and stick wall paper looks in the cabinets by clicking here. It’s still one of my favorites.

My bathroom reno isn’t quite finished but we choose the same colors and similar tile. My 12×24 porcelain floor tiles look like Carrera marble. The mosaic on the shower floor and in the back of the large niche matches perfectly. I choose pale gray 4×12″ subway tiles for the walls and built-in bench. The 4″ wide horizontal accent stripe is in shades of white, gray and gray-blue glass. We took out a closet so the shower could be enlarged. When the bathroom is finished, the shower will be enclosed with a clear glass wall. That will make the bathroom appear larger even though we didn’t change the width of the room. To maximize space, we are putting in a large pedestal sink. I’m losing the storage in my old vanity cabinet but gaining space in the new extra large medicine chest. The 24×36 Kruge medicine chest has built-in lighting and even a built-in magnifying mirror. We replaced the old lighting fixture with recessed lighting. The new doorway is extra wide and will have a custom barn door. I can’t wait for the project to be finished!

Oh my goodness everything you described sounds so beautiful! So smart to enlarge the shower by using closet space. I’m sure you will be enjoying your new bathroom as much as we are enjoying ours in no time.

Beautiful finished bathroom. I’m looking to do both of ours and searching for a gray/taupe tile. The resource pics aren’t showing up. Is the smaller tile the Siberian pearl mosaic, and who makes it?
Thanks Michelle 🙂

Michelle, I love your bathroom. I’m in the process of remodeling our primary bathroom now and I fell in love with yours. I specifically am looking for a faucet exactly like yours. I did find a similar one that Kohler makes but it is very expensive. Would you be able to tell me what your faucet is?
Susan
Michelle Meyer says
Thank you Susan! The name of the shower and sink hardware is Leyden (polished chrome), which we purchased through a hardware and pluming store in Ft. Worth. It was a bit of a splurge for us, but we are very happy with it. Search Leyden Faucet on-line. I hope this will help you.
Susan Gagnon says
Thanks Michelle. I appreciate it. I couldn’t seem to get that faucet out of my mind, I liked it so much. I found it with no difficulty. It is a bit of a splurge but it is stunning.

Hello again, Michelle. I purchased the Leyden faucet and shower fixtures in polished chrome. They are gorgeous! My contractor is starting at the end of July. I need to purchase vanity cabinet and linen cabinet hardware. My cabinet retailer is including round knobs much like yours but I was considering pulls for the drawers. Are you happy with the little knobs instead of pulls? Also, the faucets have a square base yet the knobs are round. Any comments?
Michelle Meyer says
Hi Susan, I’m so excited about your progress! I went with the round knobs, because I like the size and weight of them. I also didn’t want everything to be so matchy matchy, and I’m still happy with that decision. The only thing I would change is maybe going with slightly wider pulls on linen cabinet doors and drawers, but in the grand scheme of things it’s not that big a deal.
Susan Gagnon says
Thanks Michelle. I will probably get drawer pulls and use the round knobs for the doors. I don’t have to decide that until the end. I will keep you posted as we progress. Thanks for your inspiration.

Your bathroom is stunning! Could you share the name and manufacturer of the mirrors? They are beautiful!
Michelle Meyer says
Thank you so much Christiane! I purchased the mirrors at Kirkland’s on sale for a ridiculously low price. Unfortunately I couldn’t find the exact same one on their site when I checked this morning. This one is as close as I can get if you want to take a look. https://www.kirklands.com/product/Mirrors/Decorative-Mirrors/Metallic-Silver-Grooved-Texture-Wall-Mirror/pc/2450/c/3056/290605.uts
