Holiday Cocktails
Holiday cocktails come in many shapes, sizes and flavors. So what makes a cranberry champagne cocktail so special?
- Champagne is the crowning touch to our cocktail which is always an elegant and sophisticated choice for toasting and celebrating. The more bubbles the better I like to say!
- Cranberry juice of course adds a beautiful festive color to this holiday cocktail, and we just love its delicious tartness.
- Grand Marnier with its sweet orange citrus flavor creates the perfect balance and compliment for cranberry juice.
More than 20 years ago, I was introduced to the Poinsettia, which at the time was just cranberry juice and champagne. Like so many cocktails it has evolved. Now I enjoy it even more as a cocktail with the addition of orange liqueur.
Cranberry Champagne Cocktail Recipe
- 2 oz. 100% cranberry juice (chilled)
- 1 oz. orange liqueur such as Grand Marnier
- 3 oz. champagne (chilled)
- optional garnish: fresh or frozen cranberries and a sprig of mint or rosemary
In a fluted wine glass combine cranberry juice and orange liqueur, then top with champagne.
Chilling your cranberry juice and champagne ahead of time is a must for this cocktail, which is best served cold.
An elegant cocktail like this one doesn’t require a garnish, however if you want to add something special, fresh or frozen cranberries and a sprig of mint will make a pretty presentation.
Remember the recipe above is more of a guide, because you can adjust the ingredient amounts as you wish.
Batch Recipe
When making a batch of cranberry champagne cocktails, I go just a little heavier with the champagne. This will serve about 6 to 8 depending on the size of the glass.
- 12 oz. 100% cranberry juice
- 6 oz. orange liqueur such as Grand Marnier
- 1 bottle champagne
Combine all ingredients in a glass pitcher. Serve chilled.
My motto for any recipe is to buy the best ingredients. The best cocktails are for savoring, so whenever possible buy good quality liquor, or in this case a good quality liqueur and champagne, sparkling wine or Prosecco.
I hope you’ll enjoy this recipe during your holiday gatherings. It’s so simple to make any meal or heavy hors d’oeuvres more festive, when you have a delicious holiday cocktail to serve.
