Today I’m sharing easy ways to decorate with red, white and blue. Our summer temperatures are heating up, getting me in the mood for festive colors. You could say decorating with blue and white is part of my signature style, but red not so much. Maybe it’s just a mind-set of thinking red doesn’t compliment our home. Well those thoughts are changing.

Decorating With Red White & Blue
Whenever I think about seasonal decorating I shop my house. Surprisingly, I do have a few accessories with hints of red to scatter around for a happy summer change of pace.
I’m sure I’ll be enjoying with this color scheme long after July 4th as a way to extend the holiday and summer fun.

Decorating With Books
We have enough books that I’m bound to have the right colors to pull together a summer time color scheme. Of course the stack of faded vintage books tied with a ribbon are my favorite.
The rest of the ottoman features a stack of decorating books, a wood tray with a hurricane candle holder and a vase holding bright red pentas from our garden.
Keep scrolling for a peak in the family room. On the coffee table tray is the large reference book 1776 by David McCullough which is fun summertime reading for catching up on revolutionary facts. Sitting on top, is a gardening book covered in navy blue linen fabric.
Decorating with Pillows
If you caught my last post on my Summer Ready Patio and Garden Tour, you may have spotted the reversible star and stripe pillow covers. When they’re not in use on the patio, I keep them handy in a basket under the entry table.
Decorating With Vintage Finds
A vintage looking sap bucket on the entry table with a red Atlantic label once held rolled up maps in the guest room, is now holding hydrangea blooms. This is why I should decorate more with red, white and blue. Just look at how the colors pop against that navy wall!
The coffee table tray holds books and a glass jar of dominoes loaded with colorful dots. A whisky box with red lettering goes along with the rest of the red, white and blue accents in the room.
For summer snuggling while reading or watching tv, I’m using my grandmother’s red and white quilt. It’s cheerful pattern makes up for the time worn appearance.
On the kitchen table I have a fresh supply of marshmallows, ready for outdoor entertaining in a moments notice in a rustic coca-cola crate.
Hope you have a great summer and can use some of these ideas to get started on a red, white and blue decorating scheme.
Cheers!

I love those rush rustic crates and really like the dominos in the jar idea too!
Thank you Denise, decorating with these summer colors was a fun change for me. 🙂
Love all of these ideas, Michelle. And that pretty denim look pillow on the chair in your pin is so pretty… where did you get that?
Thanks Julie, I bought the pillow few years at Pottery Barn. I’m sorry to say it’s no longer available.
How special to have your grandma’s red and white quilt! And it’s such a striking combination of old fashioned and contemporary – perfect addition to your pretty red, white and blue mix!
Thank you so much Janet. The red, white and blue accents are subtle but still a welcome change for summer.
We are David McCullough fans too! He is one of my hubby’s favorite history authors. The red quilt really speaks to me especially since it was your grandma’s –such a treasure! I also noticed how you turned the books opposite of each other in the stack. So cute!!
Thanks Cindy! The pages are not so white anymore on the little stack of books but glad you caught the subtle idea of red, white and blue. 🙂
Your home is beautifully decorated for the 4th. Thank you so much for sharing, Kippi
Thanks Kippi, we are enjoying the new look this summer. 🙂
I have some red ticking and I might just copy your cute pillow.
You should, it would look so cute with all your bright colors!
Love all these beautiful red, white and blue touches! Pinned all your inspiration! Thanks for sharing at Charming Homes & Gardens!
Thank you so much Kristin for pinning!
Great ideas, Michelle. Love your book stack and the books and the vintage crate. All good ideas.
Thank you so much Carol!
I have a room downstairs that is red, white and blue all year round!!! I used to collect patriotic things and had a big room with a fireplace and a mantel and a bookcase to display the items, but now not so much. I still love my patriotic items though and keep them on display!!!
Having a collection out where you can enjoy it all the time is perfect. Plus having it all in one space has so much more impact! Thanks for sharing Donna. Hugs!
