Today I have ideas for a quick and easy red, white and blue patio styling that you can create in just a snap. I’m using simple patterns in patriotic colors, flowers, and flags for a relaxing patio setting we can enjoy all summer.
Pinterest Challenge
It’s time for our June Pinterest Challenge, and we’re sharing patriotic porches and patios. We have lots of patriotic ideas so I’m sure you’re going to be seeing a lot of red, white and blue.
If this is your first time to join us for a Pinterest challenge, this is how it works. Our host Cindy over at County Road 407, selects a photo for us to recreate, and each participant puts their own spin on the photo according to our individual style of decorating.
The best part is seeing how everyone interprets the image, and we always have an interesting variety. Be sure to click through all the links at the end of the post.
If you’re stopping by from my friend Marty of A Stroll Through Life, welcome to Thistle Key Lane. I’m so happy you are here!
For more patriotic ideas click on last month’s post, Easy Summer Patriotic Tablescapes.
This month our inspiration is from Better Homes and Gardens of a lovely patriotic front porch. I love the simplicity of this outdoor space, and the bright colors of the buntings and pillows are just gorgeous.
Here’s what I’m pulling from the photo for our patio eating area.
- patriotic colors in stripes and gingham
- blue cloth on the table
- flowers in a white pitcher
- flags in a white container
- watermelon slices
Easy Red White And Blue Patio Styling
This challenge had a different spin on it for me, because we are in the middle of pool repairs and updates. I only have a small area on the patio that I can work with for a photo shoot, and here’s a photo of what’s going on behind the camera.
The good news is that we will be able to entertain next weekend and I can’t wait. The final clean up is today. Yay!
Table Top Styling In Red, White And Blue
Just like in the PC photo, I’m decorating the patio table with flowers in a white pitcher and flags in a white crock.
As with most of our Pinterest challenges, I make a point of using what I have on hand. The exception is usually fresh flowers, which I pick up at the grocery store.
You know me, it’s impossible for me to pass up blue hydrangeas, and look how pretty they are next to the flags.
Can you guess what’s inside the crock holding the flags in place? The answer is dried beans, but rice will work too. Just a little tip from me to you! 😉
Don’t forget that food can also be part of the table top decor. A tray of sliced watermelon looks delicious and inviting.
This summer I’ll be using my French style market tote for pool towels. When it’s time to pack up, we can toss wet towels in the tote, and I can carry them straight to the laundry room. At least that’s the plan.
For a table runner I’m using a piece of light blue gingham fabric. If you not a big fan of decorating with patriotic colors just add like blue to the mix. That’s what I’m doing and I’m loving it.
Because of the construction going on I had to cut my first photo shoot short and resume a few day later. So I’m sharing another tabletop arrangement using a wood tray, a candle and a beverage set.
Red, White And Blue Pillows
I love the variety of pillows in the PC photo, which inspired me to get busy sewing. Making new pillow covers with ties is an easy way to update our patio lumbar pillows.
To make the covers I’m using six cloth napkins and one kitchen towel in various strips and gingham. The napkins were not wide enough for my lumbar pillows so I had to get creative and piece them together.
I’m using simple red and white ribbon from my Christmas stash for ties, which makes them look like that go together as a set.

How exciting to be going through a pool update! I’m excited to see that in a future post. And thanks for the beans or rice tip. I always forget about that and get frustrated with floppy flags etc. 🙂
Love your table decor and pillows. I think I have those same napkins. Did you get the bundle at Home Goods? I love them but I’m certainly not creative enough to make adorable pillows out of them. Oh, I bet you saw them in the basket on my patriotic porch. LOL. Thank you for joining in. Especially when you had so much other stuff going on. pinned
Michelle Meyer says
Yes I bought the same napkins as you did Cindy, and was planning on giving them to my daughter. Then I changed my mind when I saw the inspiration photo. Now you know how they look as pillows LOL! Fun challenge in spite of our pool mess. Thanks for letting me join in! Hugs!

Michelle, your pillow slips turned out great!!! I love the addition of the other fabric to span the width of each pillow. Great idea! And I love that you were able to carve out a small place for a little sitting area even amidst all the chaos.

Barb 🙂
