Winter To Spring Transitional Styling. Welcome back and thank you for popping in for a visit. I’m so happy to share my winter to spring transitional styling in our family room. I think you are going to love this easy going style.
It’s wonderful to be blogging again after my winter break, but don’t think for a second I have been lazy. After the Christmas break the first thing on my mind was organizing like a mad woman. The second was getting out my brushes and watercolors. I’m loving what I’m creating, especially with the ideas that are flowing out of me. More on that to come.

Winter To Spring Transitional Styling
Now let’s get to today’s post, which is transitional decorating from winter to spring. Here are the decor ideas I’m currently enjoying in the family room, that preserve that relaxed feel as we shift from one season to the next.
- evergreens, fresh flowers and plants
- muted winter and spring colors
- using four season accessories
Evergreens, Fresh Flowers And Plants
For me, a big part of transitional decorating is using what has the best vibe in my home, and reflects the current season. With that in mind, I’m keeping the the faux evergreen arrangement on the mantel a bit longer. By the end of the month I’ll be ready for something lighter, but for now this feels right.
As far as fresh flowers go, you know me, I can’t pass them up at the grocery store. What a boost they add to the room on a gloomy day. Of course my plants are always a big part of my decor, because hey I thrive on the healthy green color.
Muted Winter And Spring Colors
My inspiration for color comes from a beautiful cashmere plaid throw (Johnstons of Elgin) with dreamy blues, tans and creams. It is a gift from the Mister, that I will treasure for years to come. I’m pulling out many of those colors to repeat in pillow covers on the sofa, arm chair and rug.
I’m also updating the artwork with a Lindsay Letters’ print over the console table, to complete this transitional vignette. I can’t get enough of those blues and greens that both soothe and energize at the some time.
Four Season Accessories
From season to season I usually move my accessories around to freshen up the table top decor. It’s what I call the great migration LOL! These are what I consider four season or everyday accessories because they go with everything.
On the oversized coffee table I’m mixing several textural pieces in earthy browns and grays. The wicker tray is an excellent size to anchor books, a plant, candle holders and a vintage metal box. As we get closer to spring I can switch out some of these accessories for ones with lighter tones or textures.
