Family Room With Cozy Winter Styling. I’m so happy to be posting something new after my long break. It felt great taking my time to enjoy the last of the holiday decorations, then switching everything over to my everyday simple winter decor.
There have been some days when I hardly looked at my computer, due to some much needed deep cleaning and furniture rearranging. Of course for me, that’s where the fun begins, and it’s certainly a productive way to start the new year.
Family Room With Cozy Winter Styling
I love everything about decorating for the holidays, and I’m always a little sad to say goodbye to the tree and ornaments. Although, once everything is put away, it feels so good to start fresh with a clean house.
Here’s what I’m focusing on for winter to extend that cozy feeling from the holidays.
- winter greenery
- winter artwork
- cozy reading nook
- additional lighting
- comfortable throws and pillows
- simple accessories
There are a few things I did not pack away including the faux evergreen stems on the mantel. This arrangement was in the living room during the holidays, and I love the warmth that it brings to this space. I added a few more bare branches to give it a more natural look.
On the other side of the mantel I have a new pine tree watercolor. I was going to download something similar to frame, then decided I would try painting my own. Hey free art works for me!
The horseshoe is a gift from the Mister, that he found it in a rural area where they had not had horses for more than 70 years. To me it’s just as sweet as receiving flowers, and I love unexpected gifts. The mantel seems like a good spot to prop it up for good luck.
Cozy Reading Nook and Lighting
I’ve always felt like the corner next to the fireplace needs more light, especially for reading when we are not watching TV. Adding a slim console takes up minimal space, and now I have a spot for a lamp. I’m thinking a white lampshade might look better. I’m also noticing more colored and patterned lampshades lately. Any suggestions or thoughts on those?
The deer figurine was also in the living room during the holidays. I found it at HomeGoods, but almost passed it up, because the color didn’t work for me.
After bring it home I painted it brown, then went over again with a cream color paint to highlight the woven details. Just a reminder to not pass up something you really like, if you can give it a makeover with paint. Keep scrolling for the before photo.
Cozy Throws, Pillows And Coffee Table styling
I’m keeping the green pillow theme on the leather sofa a little bit longer, but will go lighter as we get closer to spring. Of course we have our heaver winter throw blankets around, which are so inviting on chilly days.
The coffee table styling is simplified to accommodate snacking while watching millions of football games. Go team LOL! Brass round trays, books, a pine candle and a fern are easy to move, and put back in place.
