I’m finally getting around to sharing our summer mantel with neutral colors, along with some views of the family room. This summer is crazy busy, but I’m trying to enjoy every minute of what this time of year brings in spite of the heat.
Summer Mantel With Neutral Colors
The summer mantel is a mix of textures in neutral colors on each side of a large landscape watercolor print. Just in case you’re new to my blog, the landscape watercolor is from our home where I grew up.
After inheriting it from my mom, it was updated with a more modern frame and a wide white mat. It’s been over our fireplace ever since, and I never get tired looking at it.
You may know, I have a weakness for all types of flowers, but to me dahlias are extra special. I don’t see dahlias in our grocery store floral department very often, but when I do I can’t help myself. Their creamy white petals are such a pretty addition to the mantel.
I’m loving how dahlias look in the cane wrapped vase from the entry table with simple greenery. The little French flower pot is a recent antique mall find, and the soft faded peach color adds to the neutral look I’m going for.
One of my up-cycled vases is on the other side of the flowers, which adds an interesting shape to the arrangement. For details and before photos see my post, Easy Thrift Store Vase Makeover With Paint.
On the other side of the mantel is a tall hurricane candle holder, some books, and a piece of coral.
Every time the grand littles come over, I take the coral off the coffee table and move it to the mantel. Now it resides there, so I don’t to worry about little hands getting hurt on the jagged edges.
Summer Family Room
Along with the summer mantel, I’m sharing photos of the family room. Every once in a while, I think it’s important to record how it looks when it’s really clean. 😉
As usual I’m keeping the styling very simple in the family room. On the coffee table an oversized round metal tray holds an eclectic mix of accessories. I have a tall vase of monstera leaves, a candle holder and another one of my painted thrift store vases.
This summer I’m using a variety of blue pillow covers, taking my inspiration from the artwork over the bamboo bar cart. Blue is great accent color for this room making it feel cool and relaxing.
The family room is the best room in the house for plants, thanks to the southern exposure and large windows. Everything seems to thrive in here, as long as I remember to water.

Thank you Cindy! I found the cane wrapped vase a few months ago at Michael’s. It was on sale with their spring collection, but it might still be on clearance.
