DIY Lace Bunny And Carrot Pillows. Create the sweetest mini bunny and carrot pillows with lace embellishments to add to your spring vignettes, bowl filler or use as a door hanger.

Handcrafted Society
I’m happy to be back with my Handcrafted Society friends, as we launch into a new year of project challenges. This month we are focusing on a sustainable craft to explore new uses for vintage lace. I always appreciate these types of challenges, where we can use what we already have to make something meaningful or special.
DIY Lace Bunny And Carrot Pillows
These mini lace bunny and carrot pillows make my sentimental heart happy. My grandma created all kinds of lace doilies, handkerchiefs, cut-work tablecloths, and quilts. So over the years I’ve been repurposing many of her creations, including the lace from two of her doilies and a handkerchief. To see my lavender sachets with vintage lace click here, and for sweater and lace Christmas ornaments click here.
I only have a few lace pieces left, so I’m stretching my supply to add a sweet embellishment to some mini bunnies and carrots. I’m thinking these will be fun for spring and Easter however this project applies to to any puffy pillow shape you want to make. Here’s my step by step process and supply list.
Supplies
- variety of lace vintage or new
- fabric scrap
- scissors
- paper pattern bunny or carrot
- straight pins
- embroidery thread and needle
- fabric thread and needle
Step By Step
For the bunnies and carrots I’m using some left over linen fabric from my Christmas stocking project, which you can see here. I love the texture of linen, however you can use whatever type of solid or pattern fabric you wish.
For each bunny and carrot, cut out a front and back piece of fabric. Using embroidery thread and needle stitch the front and back together, leaving a space so you can add polyfill or cotton stuffing. Then stitch up the opening.
On both bunny pillows I’m creating a fancy lace collar. You may want to pin the lace in place before securing the lace with hand stitching. You can also use fabric glue to attach the lace.
For the carrot tops I’m stitching some yellowish green lace ribbon in place after adding polyfill. This ribbon is not vintage, but it still has the handmade vibe I’m going for. The last addition to the carrots is more of grandma’s crocheted lace that looks a little like frilly leaves.
Styling Lace Bunny And Carrot Pillows
I can imagine so many ways to style lace bunny and carrot pillows, such as adding them to a little vignette. Tuck them into a spot for color, texture or just to make someone smile. This is an early spring vignette on my kitchen table with flowers, plates and a vintage pitcher. Here are a few more styling ideas that I’m loving too.
- display as a bowl filler
- add ribbon to use as a door hanger
- use to decorate a spring or Easter wreath
- add a pocket to the bunny for a tooth fairy pillow
- make a bunny and carrot garland
- tuck into an Easter basket

Michelle, you did it again! Hands down cutest little bunnies ever!!! That tiny divet of an eye just makes it. You have a great eye, balancing simplicity with just the right details. It’s always such fun to see what you come up with.
You are so sweet Diane! I’m so happy you like my vintage style bunnies!
These are so stinking cute, Michelle! I love that you used some of the pieces from your Grandma’s collection. That definitely makes them extra special. These would be so much fun in an Easter basket or to use for display as well. I would love to make these for one of my cousins who’s expecting a baby soon. She’d be so excited! Thanks for the fabulous idea. Sending you so many hugs, CoCo
