How To Create A Garden Basket Vignette. See how to turn a simple basket, a variety of terra cotta flower pots and found objects into a garden themed vignette, to celebrate the upcoming spring season.

Four Seasons Interior Design Hop
I’m so happy to be joining the Four Seasons Interior Design group of ladies including our hosts MaryJo of Master”Pieces” of My Life, and Susan of From the Bay to the Beach. Links for everyone participating today in our spring addition hop will be at the end of my post. I’m already looking forward to our next hop, which will be in May, with ideas on celebrating summer.
How To Create A Garden Basket Vignette
Today I’m sharing our entry table with a little nod to spring. Taking center stage is a pretty scalloped wicker basket, brimming with terra cotta flower pots and moss. This little display is really putting me in the mood to put on my gardening gloves, and start planting. However, I know it’s still a bit too early for that, so maybe I’ll start weeding the garden instead. 😉
Below is a list of items you can gather to create a garden basket of your own. If you have vintage seed packets, plant label stakes or gardening hand tools, you might want to include those just for fun.
Supplies To Gather
- wicker basket
- a mix of small terra cotta pots and saucers
- excelsior
- preserved sheet moss or Spanish moss
- found objects like shells or rocks
To create this arrangement I’m using a terra cotta saucer in the bottom of the basket for a flat base. Then I’m adding some excelsior to create a bed for my flower pots. Natural Spanish moss also works really well, if you don’t have excelsior.
Next, I’m adding some preserved sheet moss pieces inside some of the pots for color and interest. Then I’m arranging the pots to face in different directions, in sort of a higgledy piggledy fashion. Noice how the vintage pots add that extra bit character to the grouping. I’m thinking I need to go antiquing to find a few more.
Once you’re happy with your arrangement of pots, tuck in some shells or other found objects to add a bit of texture. A little bird nest would be so sweet, although a few feathers look pretty too. Easy peasy, am I right?
Be sure to check out my flower pot upcycle project post here, for ideas on giving unattractive pots a makeover. It’s easier than you might think.
Spring Flowers, Plants And Books
Adding to the springtime vibe on the entry table, I’m placing a healthy maiden hair fern on top of a couple Charlotte Moss books. The delicate leaves create a pretty contrast to the terra cotta pots, that I’m really loving. By the way, if you’re looking for flower arranging inspiration, I can’t think of a better resource to recommend than Charlotte Moss.
Since I don’t have room for a large flower arrangement, I’m squeezing in small bouquet of white tulips in a vintage jar. I’m loving their simple beauty, and how they lighten up the entry table. Hi Michelle! Your garden basket vignette is lovely!! In mine, which is quite old, I added 2 mini terracotta pots, a grouping of flower bulbs, and two vintage, rusty old garden tools. I also propped up together 3 colorful envelopes of flowering seeds, All this is supported by green moss in a uniquely-shaped basket., under the watchful eye of an antique -looking rabbit with a brass misting can. If I ever figure out how to add pictures to my post, I’ll include them, too.
I really enjoy your posts and am inspired by them. Keep them coming! Thanks, Donna

Thank you Laura!!
Using garden baskets as the base of a display is such a lovely idea. Baskets come in som many shapes and this is one I haven’t run across before. Love that you used lots of favorite things in this display. Who doesn’t like sea shells, feathers and garden pots? this is a fun way to share a collection.
