Floral Spring Vignette For Buffet Or Sideboard. See how to create a pleasing springtime display layering vases, flowers and artwork on your buffet or sideboard.

February Design Challenge
Welcome to the new Design Challenge, formerly the Pinterest Challenge. With the new name change, we will be widening our search for inspiration from the web and other social media platforms. Just as before, our host Cindy of County Road 407, will select an image for us to recreate, and each blogger will put their own spin on the photo. Be sure to check out my friends Christy of Our Southern Home and Lora of Create & Ponder who come before and after me in our hop.
For our first Design Challenge, we have a beautiful spring vignette from @lizmariegalvan. It’s hard to miss the swan artwork, but if you look carefully you will notice this pretty floral display includes a fabulous collection of urns.
For my spin on the design challenge, here’s what I’m pulling together for a similar spring vignette on our buffet table.
- bird artwork
- neutral vases in different sizes
- real and faux flowers
- lamp
- candle
- wreath
- plates
Floral Spring Vignette For Buffet Or Sideboard
The main objective I want to achieve for this challenge, is the feeling of layers to create a pleasing tabletop display. I already have framed Audubon bird prints, and a large round mirror in place over the buffet, so I feel like I’m half way there. Now let’s see how the rest comes together.
Eclectic Vase collection And Flowers
I never would have thought about collecting garden urns, but after seeing how Liz Marie decorates with them, I’m thinking I should. Until then, I’ll be rounding up the vases that I already have on hand. They are an eclectic mix of styles, although the neutral color and sizes helps them blend together.
I’m not feeling the need to fill all the vases. For my small buffet, that would be too much. So I’m using faux greenery with flowers in the largest vase, and fresh flowers in the smaller scalloped vase.
Adding Texture and Layers
Instead of a wicker basket as in the inspiration photo, I’m using one of my flower pots with a white cyclamen. This rustic texture is a pretty contrast to the vases, and adds color too.
To create depth with layers, I’m staggering the vases, pulling the ones with flowers forward, while pushing the empty ones back. More layering includes a boxwood wreath leaning against the wall. I like how you only see is a bit of greenery.
Filling in the space next to the cyclamen is a glass candle holder on a stack of plates. On the other side, a collection of flower frogs creates another interesting layer next to the lamp. This is my little twist to the challenge and personalizes the display. 😉
Plate Wall
Where are the plates? Well besides the ones on the buffet, I have a new plate gallery wall across from the buffet table. At last I have something pretty to reflect in the round mirror. If you look closely, you can see a few plates through the floral spring vignette in the mirror.
I’m loving the mismatched blue and white vintage plates, but it is still a work in progress. The gallery wall will continue to evolve as I collect more plates, so I’m looking for some suggestions. Should I stay with a somewhat symmetrical arrangement or go for a random arrangement of plates? I’m trying to decide what direction I should go. Let me know in the comments. 😊

Always enjoy seeing what you’ve done in your home. Yay for spring!
Thanks so much Stacey! This spring weather is hard to beat!
Spring has definitely sprung in your dining room. I love all the white accent pieces. Your frog collection is fabulous!
Thanks so much Laura! I felt like the flower frogs needed a little spotlight! 😉
Michelle, this is a stunning display! Your neutral vases with greenery really mimic the urns Liz Marie used, and I adore your plate wall and the reflection in that pretty round mirror!
Thank you Cindy! This challenge is just what I needed to get into spring decorating!
Your sideboard looks gorgeous! And you even incorporated the round wreath. Great job! The whites work perfectly in your home and on that new furniture. Everything is screaming spring elegance! pinned
Thank you so much Cindy! I think we are going to have even more fun with the new design challenge inspo! Great job on this one!
Michelle
The green and white is just stunning. Great job.
Thank you Rachel! I just can’t get enough green and white!
This is beautiful, Michelle! I love the reflection of the plate wall in the mirror — such a pretty detail. Your display feels so fresh and airy with all the white vases and lovely florals. And that backdrop is perfect… lucky you! Such a great job.
Thank you Wendy for the sweet comments! I felt very happy with the way my spring vignette turned out!
Michelle, I like that you used the reflection to “add” plates to your spring vignette! Everything looks lovely on your sideboard ~ love the cyclamen in it’s pot and the collection of creamware vases and all of the flowers… Stunning!!!
Hugs,
Barb 🙂
Thank you for noticing the plate wall! I’m so excited to have something pretty to reflect in the mirror!
You know you had me at vintage floral frogs, Michelle;) Such a pretty vignette! I think your plate wall should go all in-go big or go home. Some big platters with blue flowers or stripes/designs would be awesome!
I like the way you think Lora! Big platters are now on my thrifting shopping list! Hugs!
Beautiful, Michelle! The reflection from your mirror is so lovely! Double the vignette beauty!
Thank you Missy! Yes the mirror makes the arrangement look fuller too! 😉 Gotta love that!
Michelle, your spring vignette is perfectly styled. I love the mix of large and small elements. The white really pops with the curated greenery. Great job.
Thanks so much Carol! I’m enjoying this spring vignette while it still feels like spring. You know summer temps are just around the corner.
Michelle,
I love your interpretation of the challenge. Your dining room is just lovely! I especially love the plate wall’s reflection in the mirror.
