Repurposed Containers

It’s possible, I might have mentioned about three dozen times, my “thing” for plaid. So, if I have an opportunity to incorporate plaid into my decor, even if it is only a tiny container with a tartan band, I seize the moment. This is also a quick and easy project to repurpose tin containers for organizing, plus make them more attractive for display.

While cleaning out the pantry, I realized the tartan tin tea container, is way too cute to be hidden. Since I’m a big tea lover, I have a variety of containers that can be repurposed. These cute tins will be perfect displayed on my desk.

I should probably clarify, that while I do have a thing for plaid, I’m very selective when it comes to colors.  The navy, green, brown and gray plaids go best in my decor, but for some reason are more of a challenge to find.

Winter White Plaid Pillow

Thistle Key Lane has a new look! I’m very excited about the new layout with the easy to read menu and wide photos. Thank you for stopping by to see my latest project.

Trending now: Large wide zippers.

Catching my attention in the fashion world these days, are wide zippers on skirts, sweaters and even lacy dresses.  Zippers are becoming part of the design in so many creative ways. In some instances, turning what was once considered a formal look into something playful and sporty.   Why not approach home decor with the same attitude.

Christmas Holiday Tour

Welcome to Thistle Key Lane’s Christmas Holiday Tour.  Who knew I could have so much fun with a few yards of fabric. I should call this post, “For the love of Plaid”! The tour starts at the front door, with a simple grapevine wreath and knotted strips of flannel left over from the plaid bunting mantel decoration. This year I’m filled with lightheartedness as touches of plaid are added here and there. Let the merry-making begin!

Decorating the Mantel

I forgot what its like to survive the holiday season with a puppy. Maybe a better description of wee Angus, would be a furry wrecking ball. The challenge of decorating has definitely moved up a notch.  It’s as if I’m caught up in a “Mission: Impossible” dream. Should I choose to accept the mission, no telling what will self destruct within 5 seconds.

First Commissioned Work

Recently, I received my first request to paint a piece of furniture, naturally I was thrilled.  I have been looking for the opportunity to paint a piece of furniture for a “ real  client”.  While the new client was saying, “let me know how much…”, I was thinking, I just couldn’t charge for my first commissioned work.  What a relief that it was a step stool and not an armoire!
