Soft Neutrals Spring Home Tour. Welcome to Thistle Key Lane, I’m thrilled that you are stopping by for our spring home tour. Today I’m sharing a look into our cottage style family room and kitchen, with subtle springtime accents and soft cozy neutrals.
Spring Home Tours
Spring is officially here at last, and we’re happy to be sharing our homes with you today. My friend Cindy over at County Road 407 is hosting our spring home tours, and I know it is going to be fabulous. I’m ready to settle in with a mug of hot tea, and mosey through my lovely friend’s homes. You’ll find all the blog links for everyone participating at the end of my post.
If you are popping in from my friend Carol of BlueSky At Home, I want to welcome you too! Carol’s home is always so pretty and I’m loving her fresh and colorful spring decor.

Soft Neutrals Spring Home Tour
One of the best things about having a home tour is that I’m forced into some much needed spring cleaning. How exciting to have two rooms that are ship-shape at the same time. I forgot how much dirt and dust is tracked in by four sweet furry paws. However, I would rather have a dirty house with a dog, than a clean one without. If you haven’t met our puppy Moose yet, here he is. Six months and growing!
Our soft neutrals spring home tour starts in the family room, and here’s a list of some subtle seasonal changes you will see. All it takes are a few quick changes to give your home a little refresh.
- pillows covers for sofa and chair
- a refresh for the mantel
- bowl bird nest arrangement
- something simple for the coffee table
- fresh flowers for the bar cart
Changing Out Pillow Covers
During my spring cleaning I updated the pillows covers on the sofa mixing solids, stripes and floral patterns. These soft shades of light brown, cream, taupe and salmon really brighten up the room. The pillow patterns also gives the leather sofa personality, and in turn makes the room more inviting.
Refresh The Mantel
I’m tweaking our spring mantel just a little from the one in our Pinterest Challenge last month. Click here in case you missed it. This time instead of a fresh flower arrangement, I’m going for casual faux flowers in a wicker vase. If I wish I can use these into the summer months, but you know me, I’ll probably change it up again.
Vintage books are always a favorite to move color around the room or to use as risers. The horseshoe and deer shed are back on the mantel. These are gifts the Mister found and brought home, which in a way, are even better than flowers. 😉
Bowl Bird Nest
As a nod to all the busy birds outside constructing their intricate nest, I’m joining in too with a bird nest arrangement. The sweet blue speckled eggs are made with air dried clay. Leftover eucalyptus stems from a flower arrangement adds a bit of color and will dry beautifully.
Spring Coffee Table
I’m keeping the coffee table super simple starting with a fern under a vintage lantern for greenery. The shinning brass trays, are the results of that spring cleaning I mentioned. I also added a magnifying glass with gingham ribbon on top of two of my favorite decorating books. If that doesn’t say spring I don’t know what will LOL!
Spring Bar Cart
Adding something fresh and organic, such as flowers or flowering branches, is one of the easiest ways to refresh a room. I love having a fresh bouquet on the the bar cart to soften the look of the glass bottles. I think the pink ribbon helps with that too.
Spring Kitchen
It’s been almost a year since our kitchen cabinet makeover, and I’m still enjoying this soothing color every day. I especially love the cottage feel and coziness of our kitchen, its like getting a big hug each morning.
I’m adding some subtle spring accents at the coffee station with a wicker tray, woven bunny and eggs. I’m also switching out the artwork, which I like to do each season. A few vintage items for organizing include a wire gym basket for bread boards and mixing bowl for holding fruits or vegetables.
Be sure to follow Thistle Key Lane on Pinterest, where the boards are up to date with seasonal inspiration you can use right now!
Thank you so much for visiting today. Now I’m going to send you over to my friend Cindy at County Road 407. I know you don’t want to miss her cheerful spring tour, and her fabulous vintage finds.
Cheers!

Hi Michelle, your soft neutral color palette is so inviting. The flower-filled rattan vase on your mantel and that sweet bird’s nest really caught my eye. It’s a pleasure to tour with you! Blessings, Cecilia @ My Thrift Store Addiction
Thank you Cecilia! I love touring with you too!

Michelle,
Awww I love Moose! He’s a scroll stopper. Your home is lovely and I agree about the clean house. Great tour.
Thank you Rachel! His personality is very sweet, so I know he’s going to be a great companion someday!
I’ve had dogs my entire life. This is the first year without one. The last of the 3 we had for 18 years has been gone four months and it’s so hard not to go out and buy or adopt more! But we are traveling so much it wouldn’t be fair to the pup. One day!
I love Moose and if you ever need a sitter, I’m your girl!
The tour is quite lovely and your pillows are fantastic! Love all the subtle touches of color and those rattan elements are perfect. I also love the plant inside the lantern. To cute! Thank you for inviting us in. pinned
We went two and half years without a dog, so I’m very excited to have sweet Moose! Thanks so much for hosting our wonderful spring tours this year! They were all so lovely!
Love the fresh feel of your living room, Michelle, and all the little touches. Even the bow on the magnifying glass is an unexpected idea. I’ll have to try that. Love your new puppy. He looks like our doodle.

Always enjoy seeing the pretty touches you place around for the season, Michelle. Your home is like a sweet hug. The gingham bow had me at hello;) Happy Spring, friend!
Thank you Lora! You know me, I just can’t pass up gingham and ribbons!
Michelle, your simple bird nest in the dough bowl is so gorgeous. I love the addition of the eucalyptus; just natural perfection. And your kitchen cabinets are just amazing. Every time I see your kitchen it grabs me with the earthy neutral colors. Happy Spring!
