Coastal Cottage Entry Table. Today I’m sharing how to create a charming coastal cottage vibe in the entryway. All we need are a few ordinary items with pops of seaside colors and we’re all set.
July Pinterest Challenge
It’s time for our July Pinterest challenge. I have to admit I get so excited about these posts, because there’s always something new to try or discover. This month our challenge is summer entry tables. If this is your first time to join us for a Pinterest challenge, this is how it works. Our host Cindy of County Road 407, selects a photo for us to recreate, and each participant puts their own spin on the photo.
Today we have 6 bloggers sharing a variety of entry or table top ideas. If you’re popping in from County Road 407 welcome to Thistle Key Lane. I think you’ll agree Cindy’s cottage core style is warm and welcoming!
Our inspiration photo this month is from @AdoredHouse with a darling Instagram photo of a slim shelf entry table. Dana’s eye for detail is so fun to study, and I love the coastal vibe I’m feeling from her clever styling.
Here are some elements from Dana’s photo that I’m incorporating on my entry table and entryway.
- turquoise and light blue colors
- hydrangeas
- vases
- rock or shell
- sailboat artwork
- wall basket with hydrangeas
- market basket and chair
Coastal Cottage Entry Table
I’m finally getting around to updating our entry table thanks to this month’s PC. Summer seems to be flying by, so I’m going to try to slow things down a bit before we switch gears for fall. I hope you will find this an interesting challenge this month, and apply these ideas when styling your entry table, no matter what the size or type you may have.
Setting The Coastal Mood
Several spaces in our home have a subtle coastal feel to them. Sometimes all you need are just a few everyday items and the right mix of colors to create a seaside mood. I’m pulling in those turquoise and light blue colors from the inspo photo with flowers, a candle holder, decorating books and artwork.
Blue hydrangeas in a pair of white vases creates a casual floral display that couldn’t be easier. The vases also make the perfect backdrop for a vintage sailboat postcard resting on an oyster shell. To see the before photos of the vases check out my post, Easy Thrift Store Vase Makeover.
Another quick update for the summer entry table is the mitre shell watercolor in orange and blue. It adds another layer of those seaside colors keeping the look feeling very casual.
A neutral lamp with soft curves and a wicker shade fits right in with my costal cottage theme. To see the transformation of the shade check out my post, How To Paint Wicker Or Rattan.
On the other side of the table, I’m displaying a plant on a stack of books, along with a large shell and a candle. By the way the polished shell is from one of my trips to Key West. In case you haven’t been there, the Shell Warehouse is the place to go for huge natural sponges and an amazing array of unusual shells.
Coastal Cottage Entry Bonus
As a bonus feature, I’m also sharing the entryway wall where we have pegs for hats and coats. Just for fun, I’m creating a similar look like Dana’s, with a basket of hydrangeas and a market shopping bag resting in a chair. Don’t you love it?

More Entry Table Inspiration…

You captured a gorgeous coastal vibe in your entry, Michelle. Your shells are so pretty and styled perfectly with the shell artwork. Well done, my friend! Pinned.
Thank you so much Missy! Another fun challenge for the books! Hugs!
It’s so pretty, Michelle! I especially love your vintage sailboat postcard! It pulls everything together for sure. Pinned!
Thank you Niky! Lucky I had the postcard for this challenge! 😊
Hello,
My Family and I must un-subscribe. We were very interested until we saw the head of a Deer placed on your wall for viewing. Very poor choice of interior decorating with a dead animal on display.
We have deer that visit our backyard daily and swim in our heated pool. Deer are magnificent creatures, and we are Blessed to have them visit us daily.
Have a Beautiful Day,
The O’Neil
I completely understand Kathleen, and I agree they are magnificent animals. This pretty mount is over 25 years old. My husband no longer hunts like he used too, and now enjoys improving their habitat and feeds them.
I knew this look was right up your alley, Michelle:) But I thought for sure you’d tuck that adorable map sailboat in somewhere; love that crafty idea! I’m so jealous of your nice, spacious foyer. I’ve always wanted to have a space like that for guests to enter…maybe someday. Love the deer mount and how you styled the hook wall, too. Enjoy the rest of your summer!
Well I did have the map sailboat on the table along with a couple of other items then edited them out. It’s like that rule of accessorizing when you’re all dressed up and remove one item before you walk out the door LOL! I appreciate the kind comments Lora! Hugs!
Wow, you even had a bonus! You know I love your paintings and the large shell is stunning. I remember it from a different post and thought then how it was such an unusual color. My parents have been to Key West many times and say it’s one of their favorite places.
Love your post and entry table. I imagine walking in is always quite soothing. pinned
We are planning a trip to Key West very soon and I can hardly wait! It’s one of our favorite places too! Thank you for another successful PC my friend! Hugs!
