Neutral Coastal Entryway Styling. I’m sharing how our neutral coastal entryway is shaping up with a new wall color. It is a subtle, and laid back way to decorate for summer that feels fresh and inviting.
If you have been following me for a while you may be wondering what happened to the entryway’s navy wall. Well you know how one home improvement leads to another and another? That’s what happened when we painted the kitchen cabinets, and update the wall under the bar area which leads around to the entryway.
Yep, the navy walls had to go. I’m still a little sad about it, but the flow from one space to the next is so much better after returning this wrap around wall back to a neutral color. You can see the kitchen and bar area reveal post by clicking here.
Neutral Coastal Entryway Styling
After making the wall color change, I was really dragging my feet on updating the entry table. The huge contrast between the dark wood table, and the light neutral wall was blocking me. I finally decided not to fight it, switched out the big lamp, and everything started to fall into place.
The lamp is a one of kind piece from a makeover post featuring terra cotta paint. Would you believe the color used to be dark gray and orange? Click here to see the before photo and the paint process tutorial.
I’m keeping the mini watercolors in the oversized matted frames for a while longer. After all, navy and white is the ultimate coastal color combination, so what’s not to love!
My ponytail plant “Dude” adds to the coastal vibe in a vintage cobalt blue Fiesta bowl. Dude has been we me for many years now. Luckily he is very independent, and doesn’t like to be fussed over.
Coastal Accents And Textures
The coastal entryway would not be complete without a collection of shells on the table. It’s been a while since I vacationed at the beach, so I’m so happy to get out my bag of shells again for display. I always marvel at their beautiful colors and textures.
Instead of creating a perfect arrangement of shells, I turn them over building little stacks, adding a few random oyster shells on top. It is hard to pass by without picking them up.
I found the scalloped round tray earlier in the spring to use in the kitchen, but I’m loving the way the shells look in it. What do you think?
If you are wondering about the shadow box, it holds some treasures from childhood. I can’t think of a better way of displaying or protecting fossilized vertebra, and a piece of petrified wood. 😉 If nothing else, it is a good conversation starter.
The vintage demijohn lightens up the look on the table, and reminds me of sea glass. Even though it is a bit oversized for the table, it works for me.
Using Baskets For Storage
Baskets of course come in handy for storage, but I mostly just love the way they look under the table. A summer throw blanket and fluffy pillow says, hey come on in and get comfortable.
Speaking of getting comfortable, if you missed my recent cottage style family room post you can see it here.

Love everything about this entry way. The island girl in me is so happy. 🙂 The shells, have you collected them?
Michelle Meyer says
Thank you so much for visiting and commenting! Yes I collect shells every time I visit the beach, although the oyster shells I recently purchased for an upcoming project.

I saw the change before I even read any words! I love it. What a beautiful difference. I liked the navy too but change is always good. I’m actually trying to decide what wall to paint in our entry. I really want to paint the wood rails on the stairs too but a little terrified of screwing it up. And the cost is way more than I’d like to spend so it will probably never get done. lol.
Anyway, love the new look and your coastal pieces are perfect. Happy summer. Stay cool!
