Blueberry Compote Recipe. Make a delicious blueberry compote in about 30 minutes with a short list of ingredients. You will love it as a scrumptious dessert topping or as a side to savory meats.

Blueberry Season
Once again it is blueberry season at Thistle Key Lane, and as tradition calls, I’m sharing another blueberry recipe. This may be the easiest blueberry recipe yet, and so versatile as a delicious topping. I even get requests to make PB&J sandwiches with it instead of jelly, so I guess you could call it a PB&BC sandwich haha!
In case you’re wondering, a compote is defined as fresh or frozen fruit, simmered to a create a sauce, with the addition of sugar and spices. You can make it with honey or maple syrup as a substitute for sugar. Serve compote warm or cold as a dessert topping or a side to savory meats.
Blueberry Compote Recipe
- 4 cups fresh blueberries
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tps corn starch
- 1 tps cinnamon
- zest from 1 lemon
- juice from 1 lemon
- Combine all ingredients in a large sauce pan and stir together.
- Cook on medium low heat for about 10 minutes then turn the heat down to low. Continue to reduce the blueberries for about 10 minutes.
- Remove from the heat, and serve warm if you wish. When completely cooled transfer compote to a bowl or jar, and store covered in the refrigerator.
Notes
This recipe is easy to cut in half if you want to make a smaller batch. You can use fresh or frozen blueberries, however I have to admit fresh is a wee bit better.
How To Serve Blueberry Compote
I can think of so many mouthwatering ways to serve blueberry compote. One of my favorites is over French toast, talk about delicious. Now imagine blueberry compote served as a topping over ice cream, yogurt, cheese cake, oatmeal, pancakes or waffles. Mix blueberry compote into with your balsamic vinaigrette recipe for a sensational flavor enhancement.
