If your fall is starting out as busy as mine, then you’ll appreciate my simple approach to fall decorating with mums and pumpkins. That’s about all I’ve had time to do lately, but at least I’m decorating with two of my fall favorites. It’s hard to pass up yellow mums with their cheerful little blooms.
Fall Decorating With Mums And Pumpkins
I usually start every fall season buying a few mums, but before I plant them outside I find ways to enjoy them indoors. Mums are so easy to display. Just grab a bucket or basket and you are good to go.
The bamboo bowl I’m using is too short to conceal the plastic flower container, so a strip of navy linen works as camouflage. Burlap fabric is a better choice for wrapping around plants and flowers but the linen works in a pinch.
The large glass hurricane candle holder balances the coffee table without making it look cluttered. It’s been one of my favorite accessories for years.
This years fall decorating theme is gravitating towards yellow and navy. Normally I would use the navy and white striped box for summer, but I’m loving how it looks with the yellow tiger pumpkin on top. I’m also using navy pillows and a plaid throw with yellow and blue.
The large metal tray was a fantastic find last year at a local antique mall. It has lots of blue gray colors which bring out the same colors in the area rug.
Decorating With Pumpkins
For the first time in a while I didn’t go overboard buying pumpkins. Shocker I know! This year I’m using them as small accents only.
Cute white pumpkins on the mantel make easy book ends for a monochromatic look. How fun is that!
Did you see my Summer to Fall Mantel post? That’s when I introduced the orange and green gourd garland. I wonder if I can use green gourds for Christmas too? LOL
The family room and breakfast area will be getting a mini makeover in about a month with shutters for the windows. I’m anxious to see how much better the windows will look with wide shutters and moulding. It’s going to completely change the look of the room.
The bar area has new bar stools which I’m still so excited about. It’s what I call a grown up look and I’m loving the natural wood with the navy wall. For close up views of the chalk board with the gourd garland see the post Transitioning Summer To Fall Kitchen Ideas.

More pumpkins and mum ideas are coming in the entryway next week. with lots of navy and yellow. Be sure to check back for that.
Cheers!

Thanks Lauren, displaying mums indoors is something my mom used to do and I’m carrying on the tradition.

I know what you mean. I would buy a car load if I had a place to put them all!

I just love these sweet mums in your home! And white pumpkins are my favorite right now, they’re so cute against the white books.
