It’s time to transition to cozy winter decor now that the holidays are over. This is a happy process for me, because my home is clean, but I’m still enjoying some of the holiday decor. Today I’m sharing the family room with a winter mantel and cozy spaces around the fireplace. I also have a quick accent table makeover for you to see as well.
Transition To Cozy Winter Decor
How was your holiday? Did you ring in the new year? We had such a wonderful Christmas with our family, and welcomed in the new year early. I should know that after two glasses of wine, there’s no way I’m going to make it till midnight. Sure enough, some things never change. 😉
Winter Mantel
As you can guess I’m carrying over the green and white theme from Christmas into our winter decor this year. My post, Christmas Home Tour In Green and White, is one of my most popular posts in 2021. Be sure to check it out.
On the mantel you might recognize several holiday decor items that I’m regrouping from different spaces. The little green houses, the vintage lantern, and white vases. These are just everyday accessories, but when grouped together with the mini cypress tree and pine greenery, they have a wintery vibe.
It seems that I’m always using books on the mantel, but they sure do help to add height to some of the shorter accent pieces.
Using evergreens is one of the easiest ways to extend the winter holiday decor. Most of the fresh greenery is gone, but faux green still adds vibrant color to the mantel.
By the way be sure to check out the before photos of those vases in the post, Easy Thrift Store Vase Makeover With Paint.
Cozy Fireside Spaces And Accent Table Makeover
Next to my cozy chair is a big stack of decorating and recipe books. I have a few new additions to read thanks to a generous family member that knows how much I love Ina Garten’s books. They are signed too, how cool is that?!
Now I’ll have no excuse for not cooking or baking, since every page is full of inspiration. I love reading and studying recipe books. How about you?
My little copper accent table that I found a couple of years ago on clearance is sporting a new look. All it takes is a can of metallic spray paint, a few minutes to apply it and time to let it dry.
What do you think of the new color? Sometimes I like having a pop of color to add interest to a room, but in this case the subtle bronze color looks blends in better with the surrounding furniture. The table looks so good next to the white wing back chair in the living room too. I’m giving myself bonus points for that LOL.
Winter Coffee Table Decor
The winter coffee table decor is very simple. I’m still using the same fresh arrangement in a vintage French zinc bowl. I hope to keep the poinsettias healthy until spring and then plant them in the back yard. Hopefully they’ll make it, including the lacy fern house plant.
Right now we have three throw blankets in the family, room because winter finally arrived yesterday. We are down in the 20s this morning, and I have no plans to get very far from this cozy space.
Be sure to follow Thistle Key Lane on Pinterest, where the boards are up to date with seasonal inspiration that you can use right now!
Are you ready to transition to cozy winter decor too? I say, pile on the throw blankets, grab a hot beverage and stay awhile.
Cheers!

This is all so fresh and pretty, Michelle! I love the little green houses in the mantle mix. I’m currently killing off my white poinsettias #notagoodplantmom, so I’m impressed that you intend to keep yours alive to plant outside!
Michelle Meyer says
Thank you Janet! Since poinsettias are tropical plants, they love our Texas heat. They turn green and look pretty mixed with other flowers. The trick is getting them to last until April LOL!

Everything you do is so pretty, clutter free, peaceful and carefully thought out. Must be why I love it! And the accent table turned out great! I need to do some zhuzhing around our house. Happy New Year! pinned

Zhuzhing is a great word. Need to remember that one next time I’m playing Scrabble! I really love this little table now and need to take a critical eye to a few more items that are on the fence around here LOL! Thanks for the sweet comments Cindy. Big hugs!!
