Autumn Vintage Cottage Vignette
It doesn’t happen very often, but every once in a while, I find myself completely smitten with little treasures. What I’m referring to are three mini vintage English houses (a recent Etsy find). I adore their cute shapes, hand painted Tutor details, and muted colors that I can display year round. All of that makes my cottage loving heart very happy.
After admiring them on my kitchen shelves for a few weeks, I’m now enjoying them in an autumn vintage cottage vignette on the kitchen table.
Creating An Autumn Vignette
When I create a vignette I like to start by using a tray, platter, cutting board or wood riser. That way I can contain my seasonal decor into a compact arrangement, that’s easy to transfer to another surface. For this autumn vignette, I’m using a painted wood riser with scalloped details around the edge. To see how to make your own wood riser click on my post here.
Some of the most interesting vignettes are those with layers. I’m creating the first layer of this vignette with a book, which allows me to vary the height of smaller pieces on top. In addition, I’m using a brown transferware plate for a fall color and pattern.
Next comes the decorative pieces, such as a vase of flowers, a wicker pumpkin and the vintage mini houses. These kinds of pieces, I keep moving around until I have a pleasing and balanced arrangement. Depending on what you choose to display, you might try this simple trick of stair stepping your accessories. That allows them to become more visible from different angles.
Autumn Flowers
One of my favorite flowers for spring, summer or fall is chamomile. In this arrangement I’m using chamomile as a filler to brighten up the orange and gold mums. I’m also using a few cuttings from the fire bush we have in the backyard. Don’t you just love their unusual dark orange blooms?
The Mister plants them to attract hummingbirds to the backyard. Before long we’ll be spotting more hummingbirds as they start their annual migration south, and stop over for a break.
Autumn Accents
The last addition to my autumn vintage cottage vignette are mini bottle neck gourds and pinecones. Every year I find new ways to decorate with gourds, because I love their natural color and unique shapes. I think they add so much personality to seasonal decor even in small amounts. Same goes for pinecones, which is one of the most versatile natural fall accents that I use.
