Cozy Autumn Family Room Decor
I had an aha moment when editing photos for today’s post, and I finally put a finger on my decorating style. I’ve been using the term cottage style to describe our home for a good while. However that term describes many types styles, so just for fun, I’m going to define my cottage style a wee bit more.
My style lands somewhere between country cottage and modern cottage styles. Country, because of my love of rustic textures, vintage pieces, muted colors and lived in rooms. Modern, because of my love of simple furniture lines, subtle fabric patterns and uncluttered spaces. I think you’ll agree when you take a look at our family room and our latest furniture updates.
Furniture Updates
Recent updates include a new leather couch and coffee table. The leather sectional was not a good fit for the Mister’s back, so now we have one of those sink in and get comfortable couches. I have to admit I love it too, and the rich brown color of the leather.
Of course a new couch calls for a new coffee table, and this one is the right size for the space. I’m loving the rustic wood, the storage drawers, and the extra decorating surface the coffee table has to offer. 😉
Autumn Accents On The Coffee Table
Coffee table styling starts with some decorating books that I’m using as platforms for arranging items that have fall colors and textures. This includes a vintage wood block in a contrasting wood color, and a rustic black vase with harvest yellow dried flowers.
In the center of the coffee table, I’m displaying a glass hurricane candle holder for height and simple wooden links. The blue artisan terra cotta bowl is a lucky find from HomeGoods. I call it lucky, because it looks just like one that Pottery Barn currently has for a much larger price tag. Love it when that happens!
Autumn Mantel Decor
For casual seasonal decorating, I prefer an asymmetrical arrangement on the mantel, which I try to balance with color or height. This fall I’m using pretty faux yellow stems in a large vase to set the stage. On the other side I’m repeating the color with a wicker wine bottle, and adding an extra piece of artwork for height.
Simple Patterns And Muted Colors
As your eye travels through photos around the room, you’ll see simple patterns and muted colored fabrics. This includes upholstery and pillow covers in fall shades of white, tan, brown, and blue. I’ve always thought our home was made for autumn more than any other season and reflects that cozy laid back mood.
One thing for sure, is that Moose feels pretty relaxed no mater where he chooses to lounge. By the way our puppy dog will be a year old next week, which is so hard to believe. Why do they have to grow up so fast!
