Dining Room Update And Fall Styling. See a modern cottage style dining room makeover with a collected over time look. Subtle fall accents on the buffet and dining table, feel cozy without going overboard.

Several months ago we donated our dining room furniture, that we had for more than 30 years. It was a bitter sweet goodbye thinking about all the meals we enjoyed around the table. However the best memories are the actual faces of loved ones around the table, so I say, let’s make more memories in the new dining room. Dining Room Update And Fall Styling
First let’s talk about the dining room update or makeover. My wish is to create a modern cottage style feeling in this space, including natural finishes, a warm color palette, and clean lines with a mix of vintage decor.
With that in mind, I went with dark stained maple side chairs, an oak buffet with a honed bluestone top, and a maple dining table. The table legs have that quirky unexpected design element, that is a welcome contrast to what we had before.
The furniture has a collected over time look with beautiful finishes, allowing the furniture to blend together even though nothing matches. The upholstery on the chairs is a subtle pattern in a soft cream and taupe that goes with almost everything.
A few more additions are coming soon, including four Audubon 2nd edition prints. When I get them back from the framer, my plan is to hang two on each side of the round mirror. Then I can start thinking about artwork on the other side of the dining room, so we have something pretty reflecting in the mirror instead of a blank wall.
Fall Accents On The Buffet
Now that I have a buffet instead of a breakfront, I can decorate it with seasonal items, set up a buffet for a special celebration or just desserts. Now we’re talking!
For now we are getting ready for fall with a few seasonal accents. A wicker vase holds a variety of seasonal faux stems in warm soft colors. At the base are a few bottle neck gourds, which are always a favorite for fall. I’m also putting my vintage wood dough bowl to work displaying deer sheds and oak leaves. I think all these textures look so pretty together.
Dining Table Centerpiece
For special occasions or entertaining, I love creating flower arrangements for my seasonal tablescapes. However for this post I thought I would share my everyday centerpiece that is currently on the dining table. I’m loving this laid back look for late summer into early fall. It’s been a breeze setting the table for impromptu dinners when the kids come over.
A grouping of tall metal candle holders look quite handsome with twisted taupe candles. The heavy stone bowl is a HomeGoods find, and serves as a good neutral piece for color and texture. For an artistic display, simple faux terra cotta apples rest inside the bowl. If you want to see how to make your own terra cotta apples, click on my post here.
Right now, I’m already dreaming of a fall tablescape in the dining room. Hopefully I can work on that in the coming weeks, and share that with you soon. If you wondering what Moose thinks about the new look, well I think we have his approval.
