If you’re looking for last minute 4th of July vignettes, then you’re in luck, because that’s what I’m sharing today. I have tree easy to create vignettes using flags that you can throw together in no time at all.
Pinterest Challenge
It’s time for our June Pinterest Challenge, and this month we are sharing our favorite patriotic decorating ideas. We have a lot of flag waving going on that I think you’re going to love.
If this is your first time to join us for a Pinterest Challenge, this is how it works. Our host Cindy over at County Road 407, selects a photo for us to recreate, and each participant puts their own spin on the photo.
The best part is seeing how everyone interprets the image, and we always have an interesting variety. Be sure to click through all the links at the end of my post.

If you’re popping in after visiting my friend Lora of Create and Ponder, welcome to Thistle Key Lane. I’m so happy you’re here! Lora’s vintage patriotic hutch just warms my heart. She always inspires me with her clever ways of decorating.
Our inspiration this month comes from the Liz Marie Blog with her Simple Summer Patriotic Decor. I love the vintage vibe of the flags and her pretty antique demijohns.
Last Minute 4th Of July Vignettes
For this month’s PC we have the option of decorating with any flag decor. So I’m sharing my version of Liz Marie’s patriotic arrangement, plus two more last minute 4th of July vignettes.
With so much going on this summer I let the 4th of July sneak up on me, and now we are only a week away. Does that happen to you too? If so, take a look at these three quick solutions for patriotic decorating.
Displaying American Flags In Bottles
On one side of the entry table I have a large patriotic arrangement with flags. I’m using my large vintage demijohn in a basket since I don’t have any wicker demijohns like our inspiration photo. I think the basket is an interesting way to display the glass demijohn, plus it adds a contrast in color and texture.
Just for fun I’m using a green glass jug to hold three red, white and blue pinwheels. Arn’t these cute? I think the grand littles will like them, and I just love their vintage appeal.
To complete the patriotic entry table I’m including a book Presidential Anecdotes written by my collage professor, Dr. Paul Boller. If you love history, this book is full delightful stores and one liners from some of our more interesting presidents.
For the other side of the entry table I’m balancing out the green with a little fern sitting on a navy stripped box.
Red, White And Blue scrap fabric Flag Vignette
On the kitchen table I created a little vignette on a vintage bread board with a variety of items. For height and color I’m using the scrap red, white and blue flags that I made a few weeks ago. Since this is a very casual vignette I’m using one of my blue mason jars to hold the flags.
I’ve been picking blueberries almost every day for the last few weeks, so I’m including a bowl that we can munch on every time we walk through the kitchen. It’s always fun to include fruit in kitchen vignettes as long as you replenish it. 😉
Luckily my white geranium is still blooming, so I’m including it too. I love having something green or blooms in vignettes.
By the way, you still have plenty time to make scrap fabric flags this summer. These only take about an hour to make and you can reuse them year after year. Click on my post DIY Patriotic Scrap Flags post for the tutorial.
Simple Flags In A Jar
You can display flags in almost any type of vase, pitcher or jar that works in with your color scheme. I’m using one of my jars with gingham ribbon from my post, Coastal Spongeware Mason Jars.
This flag vignette is on our bar cart nestled in with a green plant and some vintage seltzer bottles. Of course you can create the look on any tabletop or coffee table. Easy peasy!
Here’s a tip: To keep the short flags standing straight in the jar, fill it up half way with dried beans. If you are using a clear jar or vase you may want to skip the beans LOL!
Be sure to follow Thistle Key Lane on Pinterest, where the boards are up to date with my favorite seasonal inspiration!
Up next on our Pinterest Challenge is my sweet friend Julie of My Wee Abode sharing her tips on adding red, white and blue to a summer vignette.
I hope you’re enjoying your summer so far, and looking forward to celebrating July 4th with these last minute vignettes.
Cheers!

Do you love history Michelle? I had no idea. History and Math were my two least favorite classes and honestly, you couldn’t pay me enough to go back to college. Not enough! Anyway, your entry table and other vignettes are perfect and so lively. I would have never thought to put a demijohn inside a basket but it’s genius and I am totally going to try that. I purchased the most beautiful blue large old old bottle at a vintage market. Got it home and dropped it on the tile floor. I was so mad at myself for not using both hands to pick it up and so sad because I doubt I’ll ever find another in that color. Lesson learned. Love your post and I know your home looks amazing all decked out for July 4th. Enjoy.
Michelle Meyer says
Haha, there’s no way I would want to go back to college either! Thinking back on when I was there a hundred years ago, I do have fond memories of my history courses mainly because I had exceptional professors. So sorry about your bottle, I would have cried! BTW I got the idea of putting my oversized demijohn in a basket from the Elsie Green Blog so all the credit goes to them. 😉
