Today I’m going outdoors to share my fall decorating ideas for a small porch. If you have a tiny porch like ours then these tricks might help you make the most of your space and make it seem larger too.
Fall Decorating Ideas For A Small Porch
Ideas for my small porch start with the front door, but instead of a wreath I’m using a willow door basket brimming with fall colors.
Taking full advantage of the door space, I’m going for a large colorful display. Preserved fall leaves in greens, yellows and reds make a big statement in a rustic door basket.
This is one of the easiest ways to decorate a door I can imagine, other than buying a ready made wreath. To see last years post click on, Willow Basket Door Arrangement For Early Fall.
Behind the preserved leaves, I’m using some artificial greenery for filler, and I have some curly willow branches for height.
Did you notice the ribbon? It’s actually leftover jute webbing from a previous project, and it’s my favorite addition to the basket.
Fall Porch Ideas With Flowers And Pumpkins
I never know what kind of pumpkins I will end up with until I go shopping for them. This year’s pumpkin picks are a little of everything including some squash like gourds. It looks like two different colored pumpkins are squashed together.
Of course I can’t pass up mums this time of year. It’s so hard to decide on colors but white and yellow mums always show up best with our dark red brick and gray door.
To create the illusion of depth start by varying the height of flowers and pumpkins with the tallest in the back. The white mum in the back is the same size as the yellow mum. It just looks bigger because it is in a larger bucket sitting on top of a brick inside.
I just love how these pumpkins look mingling with the dark green ivy. To save space, try stacking pumpkins in groups of twos or threes or use a step stool as a riser.

Michelle, you porch may be “small” but your entry is stunning. Love your front door and side windows. The willow basket hanging low, beneath the window is perfect. I’d be continually changing it for the seasons, but I imagine it looks particularly nice for spring too.
Michelle Meyer says
Thank you so much! I didn’t use the basket for spring this year, but I’m thinking it will be so pretty with tulips. I have a metal hook on the door just below the window so it’s an easy spot to hang door decor.

Your door basket is perfect! It makes me want to try one on my own door for some variety. I also love all your pumpkins and mums. You definitely have created a welcoming entrance!

I love how you wrapped jute webbing around the basket. It looks great and adds texture and interest. Your porch looks so welcoming. You found so many pretty pumpkins and gourds and arranged them beautifully. Turk’s Turban gourds are one of my favorites and after seeing yours, I must get one for my home.
Michelle Meyer says
It’s been driving me crazy that I didn’t know what those gourds are called. Thank you my friend for telling me and for the sweet comments.

Love your flat basket arrangement, Michelle. I agree with you on yellow and white mums showing up best against the red brick. Those were always my choices too. Classic.

Michelle, ‘though your porch may be small, it is certainly not lacking in lovely style! That basket is beautiful, and the ribbon on it, so “on point”! The leaves are perfect and I love all of the pumpkins and gourds! Happy Fall!

Hi Michelle, I love your pretty porch–and I just happen to have some of that jute webbing in my stash! Hurray! It looks so lovely against the willow basket. BUT–what prompted me to comment was seeing that your house numbers are painted the same color as your house. Although it looks lovely, I wonder if this could be a safety problem if you should need emergency services in the night-time hours, God forbid. I think it would be very difficult to see your house numbers in the dark. Just something for you to think about–and seeing your creativity, I know you could come up with a wonderful solution. Thanks for sharing this.
Michelle Meyer says
Thank you so much for your sweet comments Marilyn and your excellent observation. Our street number is also on the mailbox and on the house brick closer to the street. For a while we had a rash of wrong drop off deliveries so I added the numbers to the front door too. We have one of those crazy streets where street numbers are skipped and this addition seems to help with deliveries.

Wonderful!
