Welcome to this months Pinterest Challenge and my opportunity to share our relaxing patio style with blue and white accents with you. I must admit our monthly Pinterest challenge is quickly becoming one of my favorite excuses to decorate.
Pinterest Challenge
A big thank you goes to Cindy of County Road 407 for hosting our monthly Pinterest challenge. If you are stopping over from Barbara’s French Ethereal welcome. I’m excited to say we have 16 bloggers participating this month, so be sure to check out all the links at the end of the post.
To see last months PC see my post Simple Bucket Container Garden With Flowers.
Our inspiration this month comes from Bria Hammel Interiors and her Front Porch Reveal post. Be sure to stop by to see all the details of her beautifully styled porch.
The first thing that captures my attention are the soothing shades of blue fabrics and how they pop with the surrounding white accents. Of course the rattan furniture, flowers and ferns are also catching my attention with additional texture and color.
Now for the fun part, and shopping my home to see what I can pull together. Here’s my checklist of the elements I’m concentrating on to incorporate blue, white and rattan accents for our patio setting.
- blue and white pillows
- linen napkins
- blue and white kitchen towels
- white dishes
- rattan bar cart
- ferns and flowers
- something fun for the bar cart
Relaxing Patio Style With Blue And White Accents
In the center of each white dinner plate is a blue linen napkin with a simple knot holding utensils in place. This is an easy way to set the table for a casual look. By the way we use the same dishes and silverware on the patio as we do indoors.
Odds and ends make up the centerpiece with oyster shells, candles with ribbon, avocado stems and glass floats. The bucket of fishing corks creates summer interest and pulls in some of the rattan color.
Blue and white pillows add color and comfort to the patio chairs that we seriously need. Two of the outdoor pillows recently received a makeover with new pillow covers that I made with leftover toile fabric.
I’m loving the look of these pillow covers, plus that little peek of the blue plaid fabric reminds me of summer picnics. For more pillow cover ideas see my recent post, Ideas For Making Easy Pillow Covers With Ties.
Patio Styling with a Rattan Bar Cart
Borrowing the rattan bar cart from indoors makes setting up a drink station easy. I’m having fun finding ways to style it for the challenge.
Like the bar cart in our inspiration photo, I’m displaying a variety of white dishes. Unfortunately, I don’t have any milk glass dishes, so to give it just a hint of a vintage flare I’m using a scale as a platform for white plates.
Blue and white dish towels add soft texture to the cart, while limes in a speckled bowl adds a different shade of green.
Patio Plants And Flowers
We already have a ton of greenery with two blueberry bushes flanking the table, but still, a little accent of pink is a welcome sight. Pink kalanchoes and ferns in oval containers are a lucky find and fit in well with this patio scene. I feel so lazy not having to create any flower arrangements, just water and enjoy.

Michelle, I love the simplicity of blue and white in your serene patio!! Everything looks calm and perfect for relaxing outdoors. I’ll have to take a look at the pillow covers you made a little later because that may give me what I am looking for out in our patio. Lovely!!!
Enjoy your beautiful summer patio!
Hugs,
Barb 🙂
Thank you Barb, we enjoy our patio so much and luckily have good shade in the late afternoon.
hi michelle,
I love the bar cart and the serving pieces! This looks so perfect!
Do you leave the bar cart out in the summer?
Looks great! laura
Thanks Laura, the bar cart will be indoors most of the time, but I like having the option of using it outdoors for entertaining.
What a fabulous space for entertaining. I absolutely adore that bar cart!
Thank you so much Laura, the bar cart is super handy for entertaining!
What a gorgeous patio you have for outdoor meals. As soon as I saw how you tied your silverware with a napkin, thought to myself, “I need to remember that.” Then I saw your oyster shells as part of your centerpiece and thought the same thing. Your bar cart is decorated beautifully and is so handy to use when you are entertaining outdoors.
Thank you Paula, this is one of my favorite challenges so far and we are really enjoying the relaxed look.
I love all your blue and white and the nautical pillow is a darling.
Thank you Katie, the fabric was a lucky find and looks great outdoors next to the pool.
Michelle I love the set you created on your patio. The colors are my all time favorite. Love the cart you have out by the table. So cute. Enjoy your outdoor area this season it looks amazing.
Thank you Terrie, I didn’t realize just how handy this little cart could be until I set it up outdoors. It’s a fun addition!
Everything looks perfect.
I had to laugh that the two major ideas I took away today don’t really aren’t about the porch.
First, I like the way the tied napkin is holding the utensils. And I really need to use my scales in fun ways like you did here holding the plates.
Thank you Carol for appreciating those fun little details. I had a great time styling our patio for the challenge!
I love that you have a rattan bar cart! How cool! And that vintage scale is aaahhhmazing! Love it. You entire patio is so welcoming. Do you spend a ton of time out there? I would! Thanks for joining in the challenge. You knocked it out of the park! Pinned
I never thought about using the cart outdoors, until I spotted the one in the inspiration photo. It’s a fun “fair-weather” addition. We spend as much time out here as we can, and even more in the pool as the summer warms up. Thank you for another excellent Pinterest challenge Cindy!
I love your patio. You’ve created such a fun place to relax and dine surrounded by such pretty plants and pots. That teacart is a wonderfu addition too. Beautifully done.
Thank you Marty, we love the blueberry bushes on each side of the table. They seem to make the space even more inviting.
Of course I’m partial to the vintage green scale;) What a treasure! You created a lovely spot to relax and kick back in!
Thank you Lora, I just had to add something with a vintage vibe and the scales worked out great!
Hi Michelle,
Don’t you love blue, whites and ivories outside? Your pillows are so pretty. Any type of toile is perfect. I can’t get enough to this day.
Love your watering can and touch of ferns in your plants.
I’m hoping this summer isn’t like years passed and our plants thrive. I enjoy mixing galvanized with a touch of formal pots.
Cindy
Thanks Cindy! As long as I leave the watering to my husband our plants usually do pretty well!
Your patio is inviting and lovely, Michelle… Love those oval planters, and the bar cart is so pretty! Perfect way to hold dishes with that vintage scale!
Thank you so much Julie, finding the flower and fern combos was a real timesaver!
Beautiful patio, Michelle! And that bar cart is awesome and such a handy piece to move wherever needed!
Thank you Janet, using it outdoors is really handy for entertaining.

Thank you Pamela, the blue and white accents have really helped to brighten up the patio.
You know I always love your classic style, Michelle! I’ve been wanting to get a bar cart for indoors. Never thought about taking one outdoors, too. It looks meant to be there. All your special touches, like the way you tie your napkins and the vintage scale, are spot on! Pinning!
Thank you Crissy for your sweet comments and for pinning too! Hugs my friend!
Your patio is gorgeous! I am loving the bar cart, and of course your beautiful colors! Pinning!
Thank you Kim for stopping by and pinning! Hugs!
Hi Michelle, I love a patio with a bar cart! Aren’t they the best for gathering up so many things we need to entertain and keeping them on one place? So smart!!! What a gorgeous relaxing space you have for enjoying long summer evenings!
Thank you Yvonne! Yes this little bar cart has lots of potential indoors and out. Luckily my husband loves to cook on the grill so this outdoor space is the place to be spring, summer and fall.
I’m such a sucker for blue & White. This is gorgeous! That bar cart! and you r plates stacked on the scale. Love it all!
Thank you Diane, we’ve enjoying the patio all weekend and may never leave. 😉
