I’m feeling like it’s time for a little summer mantel refresh. Whenever I get the desire to decorate I start moving things around the house, which is exactly what I did yesterday. Before I knew it the mantel was sporting a fresh new look.
Summer Mantel Refresh
My idea was to create a light and airy feel for the family room where we spend much of our day. After all, during this time of the year we sort of go into survival mode just trying to get through all of these extremely hot days. By the middle or late July our triple digit temperature days are starting to pile up.
The first thing you may notice is that the mantel has a bit of a coastal vibe going on. It’s subtle, but with a few shell additions it’s well on its way to feeling casual and carefree.
In the glass hurricane circling the candle, I have Beech cone shells that are light tan and brown. I just love them, and they seem to mix in well with any color scheme.
I switched the artwork in the small black frame from a green fern to this little chickadee watercolor. It a fun way to bring the outdoors in since it looks so much like the ones that come into our backyard feeders.
Fresh Summer Flowers
I’m borrowing my wicker vase from the living room to arrange flowers in. I was hoping to find light blue hydrangeas, but only found pale green and white at my local Trader Joe’s. To bring in a bit more color I’m adding yellow asters.
You know me, I look for any excuse to buy flowers. Once these flowers fade I can switch them out for faux flowers or leave the vase empty until I buy more.
I usually have piles of books on each side of the mantel, but with this refresh I’m only using two. The ticking stripe book cover adds to the casual mood and I love the vintage feel it gives this side of the mantel.
A piece of coral and an arrow head sand dollar tucked around the side wraps up the summer mantel refresh. I can tell you right now I think I’m going to enjoy this new look well into late summer.

It looks great! Love the framed chickadee. Wish we had a Trader Joes close to us. Every time I’m in Southlake I stop in. Happy Summer, stay cool!
