Now that I’ve settled into a normal summer routine, I feel like it’s a good time to share my simple summer home decorating tour. I always think of summer as the easiest season for decorating. Maybe it’s just because we are more laid back in the summer, and we’re surrounded with easy going neutrals.
In my little tour today, I’m sharing how I’m currently using accessories you may have noticed in previous posts. I’m also sharing the big picture of how so many of my little projects have come together in decorating our home.
Simple Summer Home Decorating Tour In The Family Room
Of course no matter the season, I always love decorating with plants and flowers. This year I’m trying out some gerber daisies on the mantel. I should have organized my photo shoot a few weeks ago when they had more blooms. They kind of look like lettuce, but at least they are green.
By the way did you notice the little stack of terracotta pots? They have so much more character after their makeover, and I love tucking them in here for color and texture. To get the look, see my post DIY Aging Terracotta Pots.
A big vintage zinc drawer is now center stage on the coffee table with plants and big fishing corks. The kalanchoe is no longer blooming but the fern as you can see is going crazy.
See my post Styling a Bar Cart for more ways of using a zinc container and terracotta pots.
What do big fishing corks, grain stripe pillow covers and a rattan bar cart have in common? They are shades of caramel which seem to blend in nicely with our relaxed summer family room.
Summer Decorating Breakfast Room And Kitchen
My patriotic tray vignette is now on the breakfast table featuring fresh roses instead of English ivy and flags. By making just a couple of simple changes I have a whole new look. I love how the blue jars and demijohn pick up the natural light streaming in this time of year.
Floating glass frames hold playful watercolor ferns. See how to make these simple watercolors in no time at all, by viewing the post How To Make Book Page Botanical Art.
Across the kitchen is a view of the coffee station and my café au lait print. I’m still so happy with how well the coffee station turned out and how easy it is to keep organized.
One of biggest challenges of being home so much is avoiding clutter. Everyday I sort and recycle the mail so we don’t have clutter on the counters. If I don’t it seems to multiply over night.
My book page bird garland is still decorating the chalkboard next to the bar. I’ll probably move the garland to my studio and update the chalkboard with something new the first of September. By then, I’ll be ready for an early fall garland.

I hope you enjoyed my summer tour and can use some of these laid back ideas too. Stay well my friends!
Cheers!

Beautiful! I love home decorating. I recently bought new deck furniture and it’s become our little retreat area during quarantine.
