If you’re looking for new ideas for painting brown eggs then you might enjoy this mini project I finished yesterday. It’s been a few years since I’ve decorated Easter eggs, so I’m a little out of practice. I dabble in watercolors occasionally, but not so much with craft paint.

These brown eggs are so pretty. Some are little darker than others which gave me the idea that pastel flowers might show up really well.
The blue and green eggs I bought last year were so beautiful I couldn’t bring myself to altering them. For more decorating ideas with natural eggs see my post Spring Tablescape With Bunnies and Eggs.
Ideas For Painting Brown Eggs
For me decorating a dozen eggs calls for a simple design, so I started with five petal flowers. Half are a soft pink the other half are light blue.
After adding dots for leaves in a pale gray, I dipped the paint brush handle in yellow paint and dabbed on the flower centers. This gives the centers some dimensional texture that I really like.
Be sure to hang on to your egg crate so you have a spot to place eggs when they are drying. Setting eggs on a towel will also work because they are less likely to roll.
Add as many flowers as you like. These have flowers on both sides and one on the top which was good practice for me. After a short time I fell into the rhythm of painting and finished in no time. It was rather therapeutic and I really enjoyed playing with craft paint again.
So that you don’t have to keep cleaning your brush, use one paint color at a time. It’s like working on an assembly line.
Supply Suggestions
- small artist paint brush
- pastel paints in pink, gray, blue and yellow
- paper plate or scrap piece of cardboard for mixing colors
