Best Tips For Organizing A Kitchen
This is my third post in recent months featuring our newly painted kitchen. This time I’m sharing what’s behind the doors, and how I keep everything organized and hassle free.

Group Like Things Together
Grouping like things together may sound like a no brainer, but it the first crucial step in organizing a kitchen. We use a lot of plates and bowls on a daily basis, so those are the dishes I keep on lower shelves.
The same goes for our everyday glasses and stemware which I organize by size. Everything is within easy reach for meal prep and serving. Fewer steps also means quick loading and unloading of the dishwasher below.
Our lower cabinets are similarly organized with casserole dishes, mixing bowls, pie plates and salad bowls.
Utilizing Cabinet Space
When we recently had our kitchen cabinets painted, we also updated all the hinges. Some of the shelves needed to be raised or lower to accommodate the slow close hinges. When I was moving everything back into the cabinets, I decided to make a few changes.
These are not drastic changes more like tweaking to better utilize the space between shelves for our needs. For example I now have vertical storage space for our large dinner plates.
Two bamboo racks fit nicely to fill the shelf space. I’m loving not only how the racks look, but how they function too. This bamboo rack holds 6 plates and this rack holds 4 plates.
You may also notice I store platters of different sizes in the back of the cabinets behind other dishes. This is another easy way to utilize the space we have.
Keep Counter Top Free Of Clutter
I used to have a rule about keeping the counter free from appliances and unnecessary decor. Well you know what they say, some rules are made to be broken.
Without taking up too much work space we have added a Breville Smart Oven. It’s one of the best purchases I have ever made. We use it daily, and it doesn’t heat up the kitchen like the big oven in our warmer months. This Breville Oven is the one we have and highly recommend.
Now for the other exception to my rule is adding baskets and bowls on the counter for storage. These are both practical and pretty. I love having my bread boards handy, which I now store in a wire basket.
Potatoes, onions and garlic are readily available in a pretty stoneware bowl, and cooking utensils are neatly arranged in a crock. Around the sink I keep dish cloths handy in an extra berry bowl, and my round dish brush sits on a little plate.
Drawer Organization
Use drawer organizers to sort and keep kitchen tools and flatware in place. I also prefer keeping our knives in a drawer close to the meal prep area. This knife holder is similar to mine. I also like this bamboo organizer for flatware and this bamboo organizer for kitchen tools.
Create A Coffee & Tea Station
Creating a coffee and tea station is also part of keeping the counter clutter free. I like using a tray or platter next to the coffee maker to hold sweetener, extra spoons and a place to displace some of my ironstone pieces. The jar holds my tiny creamer collection. These rattan trays come is a cute set.
If your looking for an inexpensive coffee maker, you’ll get a lot of bang for the buck here. I use the frothing cup for making a latte, cappuccino or hot chocolate everyday. This is the coffee machine I have.
Most of the coffee and tea supplies are tucked in the cabinets above. I use trays for the k-cups and plastic divider boxes to separate tea bags. Mugs are within easy reach too. This tea bag storage organizer easily fits in our upper cabinet.

I’m giving you just a glimpse into the pantry. I mentioned the door organizer in my last post, and now you can see how it looks on the other side. For lots pantry organizing tips you can click on my post Best Small Pantry Organizing Tips.
