Gingerbread Inspired Wrapping For Christmas
I have to say gingerbread houses and cookies are on my list of favorite things around Christmas time. Instead of baking or decorating though, I’m turning my attention to wrapping gifts. Using cookie cutters as decorative patterns on wrapping paper and to make tags is so easy. You’re bound to love this idea!
While unpacking Christmas decorations I discovered brand new roll of brown wrapping paper. Yay! One of those clearance items from last year that I’m so glad I have, now that I know what I want to use it for.
Supplies and Shopping Links
- brown wrapping paper or brown paper sacks
- cookie cutters (whatever you have, gingerbread man, deer, candy cane, bell, snowflake, house, tree, star)
- pencil
- white paint marker
- craft scissors
- double sided tape
- ribbon
How To Add Gingerbread Details To Gifts
There are two ways of using cookie cutters for this project. The first is to wrap your gifts with brown paper then add a gingerbread cookie topper detail. The second is to make gingerbread cookie tags.
You may want to practice on a large piece of brown paper first by tracing around your cookie cutters with a pencil. Once you have your pencil guidelines, then trace the pencil lines with your white paint marker. Add details to you cookie shapes with dots, dashes, swirls, hearts, zig zags, and scallops.
There’s no right or wrong way to decorate, so just have fun with it. This will be a great project for the kids or grand kids too. I’ll be recruiting my little grands next year when they are a little older.
When you finish practicing on your shapes, you can cut out them out to use as tags. I already had a few gifts with a cute dog print, so I just added gingerbread cookie tags on them with double sided tape.
Gingerbread House Wrapping Paper
If you are feeling a little more adventurous you can draw gingerbread houses on your brown paper wrapped gifts. Hopefully I’ll get better as I go or just move the not so good ones around behind the tree LOL!
You can also decorate plain brown paper gift bags too. Either trace around a cookie cutter or be brave and free hand a gingerbread house. Let you imagination go wild and don’t worry about making perfect lines. The more imperfect the better!
