Cottage Christmas Kitchen And Breakfast Nook. Welcome to our cozy cottage kitchen and breakfast nook with simple old fashioned Christmas decorations. I’m bringing out the best features of the kitchen with greenery, wreaths, ribbon and a wee bit of plaid.
Christmas Home Tour
We are sending out a special invitation as eighteen bloggers share their beautifully decorated homes with Christmas home tour. A huge thank goes to our host Cindy of County Road 407 for organizing our holiday event.
If you are popping in from my friend Rachel from The Ponds Farmhouse, I’m thrilled to have you. I’m sure you’ll agree Rachel’s porch decorations are absolutely gorgeous!
Cottage Christmas Kitchen And Breakfast Nook
I’ve been looking forward to decorating our green kitchen for Christmas ever since we painted it back in March. It’s incredible how a little paint can transform a kitchen into a cozy cottage space. With limited counter space I’m concentrating on holiday accents that feel cozy without over crowding.
I’m using the same color pallet from my rustic and cozy Christmas family room, which you can see here. The muted colors evoke a feeling of warmth, that say come in and make yourself at home.
As you take the tour, you’ll see how I’m using greenery, wreaths, ribbon, bottle brush trees, gingerbread houses and plaid. I have to say this is my favorite Christmas kitchen to date, which is saying something after living here 20 plus years.
Cozy Kitchen Accents
The cottage kitchen tour starts with the coffee station. This is mostly practical decorating with a few extras, using a wooden riser to organize spoons, plaid mugs and sweeteners. My favorite plaid plates are at the ready for breakfast pastries or snacks. To see the tutorial on how to make a wood riser click here.
On the other side of the coffee maker I have a glass jar holding vintage and new cookie cutters. Making cookies is on my list of things to do, however I’m also using cookie cutters to create gingerbread wrapping and tags. See my post here for wrapping details.
A faux evergreen wreath on the pantry door is something new I’m trying this year. I think these green and rusty red tones are so pretty together. If you missed the wreath makeover, click on my post here.
You know ribbons are not just for wreaths, right? This year you’ll see them everywhere even on a tiny lamp and a cutting board handle. I may have gone a bit overboard on the ribbon, but it’s such an easy way to add pretty texture and color. Who can resist?
Christmas Plate Rack
I’m mixing holiday decorations in with my everyday decor on the plate rack. The vintage French blue transferware pieces blend so beautifully with the greenery, and bottle brush trees. The wood rocking horse at the top is a favorite piece that belonged to my dad.
Did you notice the star anise wreath? I think it fits right in with the other holiday decorations, and you can read how to make one here.
Cottage Christmas Breakfast Nook
Next to the cottage Christmas Kitchen is our breakfast nook. I hope to create a cozy and festive tablescape in the breakfast nook to share very soon.
Until then I’m using a green wooden riser to display a topiary, my gingerbread village and a candle. I’m still having so much fun finding different ways to display these little houses. If you want to see how to make them click over to my upcycle post here.
Using simple velvet ribbon I’m turning an ordinary topiary into part of the holiday decor. I just love easy decorating tricks like this one.
On the vintage printers drawer, I’m layering a wreath similar to the one on the pantry door. This is an effortless way to repeat the same colors to coordinate the two spaces.

You’re right, the addition of a simple bow made out of ribbon makes everything special. Love the frayed velvet ribbon you used in your warm color scheme. The bow on the cutting board is brilliant; perfect way to turn the utilitarian into festive! So pretty, Michelle. Enjoy the Merry season!

Lesley says
Just lovely! Where did you find your beautiful plate rack? I also collect blue and white china.
Michelle Meyer says
Thank you so much Lesley! The plate rack is from Magnolia.com and it’s called Hannon Wood and Brass Display Rack. I bought it on sale a while back and paid much less than it is listed for now. I painted it white to contrast with the cabinets. Hope this helps.
Amber D Ferguson says
SO SO cute Michelle! I always love seeing your elegant style! I am really admiring your plate rack and how you styled it. just yesteray I thrifted a little shelf that I want to turn into something similar for the boring side of the pantry cabinet that I haven’t shown on the blog yet. I am hoping to get it repainted and styled with some kitchen Christmas treasure by Tuesday’s tour. I love how you draped the garland over the top!
Your kitchen with the new color is amazing for Christmas! It just pops! I love the little tree in the basket and all of your other little spacial details. Everything is beautiful!
Merry Christmas!
Michelle Meyer says
Thank you so much Amber! Your tour was filled with so much inspiration for me, and I can’t wait to see what you share next week! Happy Christmas my friend!
