How To Update Evergreen Wreaths
Updating your old Christmas or holiday decorations is a great way to save money and storage space. Sometimes it’s just a simple ribbon change, however you may want to go in a completely different direction. This year I’m tweaking my holiday decorations to reflect a rustic vibe with lots more pinecones, greenery and muted woodland colors.
Here are some craft supply suggestions you may need to gather, depending on the type of wreath you are updating.

- wire cutters
- floral wire
- pinecones
- berry picks
- ribbon
- scissors
- glue gun and glue sticks (optional)
Instructions for updating your wreath
First step is removing any ornamentation from your old wreath that you no longer want. For me that means using wire cutters to remove all the thick wires supporting the jingle bells. (By the way I’m saving the jingle bells for a future project.)
Next cut floral wire in lengths about 10 inches long. Wrap floral wire around the pinecones and twist to secure. Then wrap the wire with the pinecone around the wreath and twist to secure. Trim the extra wire with the wire cutters.
Space the pinecones as you wish. I’m using four large and four small pinecones to vary the look on each wreath. If you don’t want to use floral wire you can hot glue the pinecones to the wreath. Since I have a habit of updating wreaths I like the idea of using floral wire instead of hot glue, but it’s up to you.
If you like berry stems you can adding a few to each wreath. Did you know you can dismantle berry picks? Just use your wire cutters to remove the branches then insert them into the wreath form.
The last step is adding your ribbon. I’m using two ribbons to make a double bow, and attaching the ribbon with more of the floral wire.
Decorating With Evergreen Wreaths
To see the jingle bells wreaths on our three arched windows in our family room last Christmas you can view here. This year I’m doing something different by displaying the wreaths in three areas to expand my rustic Christmas decor.
I’m using one wreath on the pantry door, the second is a layered look on the printers drawer, and the third one is in the entry. I’ll be sharing more photos when I share our Christmas home tour in a few weeks. Until them I’ll be enjoying my updated evergreen wreaths.
