I’m back to share more seasonal decorating today with a fall tiered tray with greens and browns. Creating a fall display is all about layering natural elements and mixing textures with everyday items from around the house.
Fall Tiered Tray With Greens And Browns
When creating a seasonal look it helps to have a theme or a color pallet to work with. For me the color scheme quickly evolved with two little velvet pumpkins. One is chartreuse the other is an olive green.
Green is a color that works in all seasons, so it’s easy to come up with lots more shades to mix together. You’ll also see light and dark shades of brown, tan and yellow that compliment the greens.
When decorating a tiered tray I like to start with the largest items first working in little groupings. It’s best to place tall pieces towards the center post and layer shorter items in front.
The creamer with yarrow and a weather almanac pamphlet are the tallest on the bottom tray. This allows layering of smaller items in front such as the dishes and moss filler.
For all you vintage lovers like me, the weather guide almanac is dated 1904, and has a space for the daily weather conditions to be recorded. It seems very appropriate for our changing weather this week.
Once the larger pieces are in place, then add filler such as pinecones, acorns, leaves and nuts. The moss covered balls in different sizes can also fill space adding color and lots of texture.
Did you see the pretty metal finial on the tray? This inspired the addition of metal elements such as the candle holders and a mini pie tin. The chartreuse velvet pumpkin looks like a little topiary on the candle holder, while the darker green pumpkin sits in the pie tin.
Here’s a round up of items on the tiered tray. If you notice many are just ordinary things, but even if they don’t relate to fall they’re still fun to include.
Natural Fall Elements To Mix With Everyday Items
- small pewter mug
- aluminum candle holders
- mini pie tin
- pinecones
- green bottle gourds
- mini white pitcher
- vase filler moss balls
- colored pecans
- wood acorns
- antique weather almanac
- wood box
- dried yarrow
- green oak leaves
- small dishes in various shapes and colors
Can you guess what’s my favorite part of the tiered tray? It’s the little velvet pumpkins, which of course is the inspiration for the color theme. There’s also a little squirrel dish holding pecans hiding under oak leaves. He reminds me of the squirrels we watch stealing pecans off our trees and burying them all over the yard. 😉
