October Pinterest Challenge
It’s time for our next Pinterest challenge. This month we are preparing for Thanksgiving, with gorgeous centerpiece ideas. If this is your first time to join us for a Pinterest challenge, this is how it works. Our host Cindy of County Road 407, selects an image for us to recreate, and each participant puts their own spin on the photo.
If you’re popping in from Decor To Adore, welcome to Thistle Key Lane. My friend Laura put a very fun spin on this month’s PC with a Sleepy Hallow themed tablescape.
Our photo inspiration this month is from Deborah of Hip and Humble Style. There’s so much to love about Deborah’s simple yet eye catching Thanksgiving centerpiece, and her coordinating place settings. I’m using many of the same decorating elements to create a festive look for our Thanksgiving table.
- wood base
- fresh pumpkins
- lots of pinecones
- rich fall colors
- candles
- plaid napkins
- wire pumpkins
Rustic Thanksgiving Pumpkin Centerpiece And Tablescape
So often my decorating style leans more to rustic than elegant, so I’m more than happy to jump into this challenge. In addition to our photo inspiration elements list above, I’m mixing in additional fall accents to make it my own. You’ll see mini pumpkins. dried stems, preserved leaves, feathers and antler deer sheds.
For weeks, I’ve been itching to create a seasonal tablescape after our dining room makeover, and now is my chance. Be sure to check out my post here with a closer look at the new furniture.
Creating The Pumpkin Centerpiece
Starting with the base of the centerpiece, I’m using a dishcloth and a vintage dough bowl instead of a table runner and wood slice. I’m loving how the dishcloth softens the look of the wood dough bowl, and also brings in seasonal colors. I already had the dough bowl on the sideboard holding deer sheds, so it makes sense to use it to create a centerpiece. The wood dough bowl will elevate the arrangement, but still allows those sitting around the table to see over it.
To create the arrangement, I’m using a medium size pumpkin, that leaves enough room in the dough bowl for twig pumpkins and a variety of pinecones. From there, I’m nestling in preserved oak leaves, and some wispy dried stems to lighten up the arrangement.
At each end of the centerpiece I’m using a pair of tiger pumpkins, a ceramic candle holder and a deer shed. I think this may be my favorite part of the centerpiece, because it creates a welcomed balance and harmony to the table.
Rustic Place Settings
For our Thanksgiving tablescape I’m using elements that feel both feminine and masculine. What could be more feminine than these pretty Limoges china plates? I love the sweet floral pattern with shades of blue, yellow and rusty orange.
To compliment the china pattern, I’m adding plaid napkins in rich autumn colors. I feel like the two patterns look so handsome together, plus I’m always mad for plaid! 😉
At each place setting I’m placing two pheasant feathers tied with ribbon and a little wire pumpkin. To see how to make the wire pumpkins you can click on my post here. They are quick and easy to create.
Be sure to follow Thistle Key Lane on Pinterest, where the boards are up to date with seasonal inspiration you can use right now!
On a side note, I finally have my framed Audubon 2nd additional prints on each side of the mirror. It’s amazing to see how much more cozy the room is starting to feel. More to come when I figure out what to put on the opposite wall which is currently blank. Should I go with a plate collection or with a large piece of art? I hope you will have some suggestions for me. 😊
Now I’m going to send you over to Barb of French Ethereal to see her pretty DIY Thanksgiving centerpiece. Thanks so much for visiting today and be sure to pop over to see my friends through the links below.
Cheers!

Michelle
I love this arrangement. The dough bowl is stunning.
Thank you so much Rachel! Hugs!
Michelle,
Your centerpiece turned out lovely. I am a huge fan of brown (which is finally getting the attention it deserves!), so the pretty plaid napkins caught my eye too! Pinned!
Thanks Libbie, those plaid napkins are kinda dreamy! Hugs!
Michelle I am in love with your table. I am mad for the plaid and can’t wait to learn how to make those cute pumpkins!
Thanks so much Laura for the sweet comments! Hugs!
Michelle,
I love your pumpkin centerpiece! The wheat and leaves really set off the darker tones in the pumpkin, pinecones and dough bowl. Really lovely!! A nice take on our inspiration piece.
Oddly enough, I don’t have any plaid napkins. On my shopping list! 😉 Enjoy your beautiful table!!!
Happy fall,
Barb 🙂
Happy fall to you too Barb, and thank you for the sweet comments!
I don’t recall seeing your dining room before. Perhaps it’s the new, fabulous-looking dining furniture?! I’m sure you’re having so much fun coming up with decor ideas.
Your tablescape is the perfect amount of rustic, casual, and elegant. And you’ve inspired me to start using my antlers during the fall season next year! That is, if I remember. I’ve never thought to do that. Probably because they are tucked away in a Christmas bin. :/
And I’ve never thought to use a dish towel. Where did you find that one? It’s gorgeous! So many wonderful ideas.
As for the suggestions on the blank wall… Why not both a large print AND plates? I think that would be lovely! I know you can paint one yourself! Thank you for joining in. BTW, the new look of your page is awesome. Is that new? Pinned
Thanks so much Cindy! The cute dishcloth is from Sur La Table. I bought it last year, so not sure if it is still in stock. I really like your suggestion of an art/plate combination and need to get started on that stat! Thanks again for hosting our Pinterest Challenges! Hugs!
What a beautiful centerpiece, Michelle. The leaves are such a gorgeous touch and the perfect complement to your lovely pumpkin. Wishing you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Thank you Wendy! Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving with family as well!
What a beautiful November tablescape and so unique! I am obsessed with the plaid napkins and the Limoges plates are so pretty.
The new dining room looks wonderful! Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks so much Amber for the sweet comments! Happy Thanksgiving!
I love this idea Michelle! The colors and textures are perfect for fall. Beautiful display.
Thanks so Anna for stopping by! Hugs!
Love the colorful plaid with the pretty floral plates, Michelle. And the mixture of textures is awesome-love the deer sheds. Your dining room looks so fresh!
Thank you Lora for the sweet comments! Hugs!
What a lovely table, Michelle! I love your combination of pumpkins and leaves. The natural colors on the dough bowl are a great base for the centerpiece. Beautiful job, my friend.
Hi Carol, I appreciate your sweet comments so much! Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
