Are you ready for some early spring mantel decorating ideas? If you’re like me, this is the time of year when you’re anticipating that exhilarating feeling of the changes to come. A mantel or table top is a good place to start your spring decorating.
Pinterest Challenge
Today I’m joining a fun group for a Pinterest Challenge, hosted by friend Cindy of County Road 407. If you’re stopping by from Let’s Add Sprinkles, welcome, I’m so happy you’re here.
Since this is my first official Pinterest Challenge let me fill you in on the details.
- Each month our hostess Cindy selects a photo from Pinterest or the internet for inspiration.
- Then each blogger adds their spin on the inspiration, adapting it to their home and style of decorating.
- The owner of the photo has granted permission to share the photo for our challenge, and you can visit their posts for further insights.
Our Pinterest Challenge inspiration photo for this month is from Deborah of Hip and Humble Style. Be sure to click over to Deborah’s posts to see her tutorial on making a cherry blossom stem.
Early Spring Mantel Decorating Ideas
Here are the elements I’m pulling together for an early spring mantel.
- tall branches
- rustic wood
- green plant
- black frame
- white pottery
- a little something pink
Tall Branches
The first thing you may notice on the mantel is the tall curly willow branch arrangement set in a large white ceramic jar. I’m loving how the height of the branches draws the eye up to ceiling. It’s as if the branches are setting the stage for the whole mantel.
I have a habit you might say of decorating with books. Yes it’s true, I especially like using them on the mantel to elevate an arrangement or when creating small vignettes.
Rustic Wood And Greenery
On the other side of the mantel I have an old corbel which offers lots of interesting texture and a bit of that vintage vibe I love mixing into our decor. Right now I’m trying to decide if it looks better on its side or standing up next to the ivy. Let me know what do you think?
Did you catch a glimpse of the corbels under the mantel in our inspiration photo? Yep, that’s what gave me the idea of incorporating something rustic into my spring mix for a bit of contrast.
Of course, I thrive on greenery and decorate with plants where ever I can fit them in. This healthy green ivy can go just about anywhere.
Now for that something pink. A tiny little watercolor of a cherry blossom branch adds just a bit of spring color to the mantel.
When my daughter stopped by the other day, she made a bee line to the mantel, and said, “wow are those cherry blossoms?” It’s such a good feeling when someone appreciates my work.

Your mantel looks beautiful, Michelle! I also want to tell you that I really like your mantel artwork.

Thanks Paula, the landscape watercolor was over our fireplace in my childhood home. I had it reframed several years ago.
Marty@A Stroll Thru Life says
How fun and so genius to add the small picture of blossoms. Your jar filled with branches is beautiful and those corbels are stunning. Great display.
Crissy @ First Day of Home says
This is beautiful, Michelle. I didn’t realize this was your first Pinterest Challenge! I get confused which ones we’re in together. I love the corbel you included, and I think my preference is standing up. Both ways look great, though. The addition of your watercolor is so perfect and lovely.
Michelle Meyer says
Thank you Crissy, I value your opinion! My husbands laughs because almost every day the corbel gets moved. LOL!
Julie Briones says
Your mantel looks lovely, Michelle. I especially love your watercolor cherry blossoms… do I see a free printable on the horizon? I think the corbel is gorgeous, and I like it standing tall! Pinned!
Michelle Meyer says
Hi Julie, I was thinking about doing a printable but maybe something larger. Thanks for the vote on the corbel. Vertical it is!

I like how you’ve added the corbel on your mantel, Michelle!! I think I like the corbel on its side here. I like using books on my mantel, too. They add a lot of height plus warmth to any vignette. Fun being with you on this month’s Pinterest Challenge! <3
Springtime hugs to you,
Barb 🙂
Michelle Meyer says
Thanks Barb! The corbel was a bold addition for me but fun for a change. Our mantel is not very deep so it’s always a challenge displaying large objects. I know you’re looking forward to spring as much as I am! Hugs!
French Ethereal says
Hi Michelle! The mantel we have at this house isn’t very deep either and I find it really hard to put many things up there… That corbel is really cool! I have a couple of newer ones that I need to pull out and use, come to think of it.
Have a great rest of your week and I’ll try and round up everyone’s pics today for IG. Tough to get things done while working during the day… 😉
Hugs,
Barb 🙂

Michelle, love your mantel. The old corbel is awesome as well as the planter for the greenery. How clever to use a watercolor of a cherry blossom, It’s really pretty.
Michelle Meyer says
Thank you Carol, you won’t believe it but the curly willow is leafing out now. Terrible timing but I can still use them in another arrangement.
