DIY Wire Pumpkin Garland
You’re going to love making these cute wire pumpkins even if you don’t want to create a garland with them. Just think how cute they would be on a fall table at each place setting, or lined up on a book shelf. Do I have your attention now?
I’m not kidding when I say these pumpkins are quick and easy to make. The secret to their simple construction is paper wrapped floral wire that is very thin and light weight, which makes it easy to work with.
Wire Pumpkin Garland Supplies
- paper wrapped floral wire
- jute string
- wire cutters
- craft scissors
First, start by cutting a long piece of wire about 84″ long, and a short piece of wire about 4″ long. Wrap the wire around something that is long and cylindrical to create a coil shape. (See figure 1 collage above.) You can find floral wrapped wire here.
I’m using the handle of of a Swiffer dust wand, but you can also use a broom handle.
The second step is to compress the coil of wire and twist the short wire around one side of the coil. This will become the center or core of the pumpkin when the loops are spread out. (See figure 2.) Trim off excess wire or tuck inside.
Now that you have the body of the pumpkin, the next step is to create a curly vine. I’m using the handle of an artist brush to make the curly vines, but a pencil will work just as well. (See figure 3.)
Leave enough straight wire to push through the center of the pumpkin, then create a little loop so it does not back out. (See figure 4.)
Once that is complete use the curly vine to carefully wrap it around the jute string to create a garland. You can find jute string here.
They come together quickly once you get the hang of it, and you can make as many as you like.
Where To Display Garlands
Do you have a favorite spot to display garlands? If not, check out these ideas on where to display a garland other than a mantel.
- over a mirror
- across an armoire
- entry table
- over a door
- chalkboard
- book shelf
I’ll be sharing more photos of the mantel in a fall tour coming up soon, so be sure to check back. For more garland ideas click on my post DIY BooK Page Leaf Garland with views of my fall mantel from last year. It’s one of my favorites!

Michelle,
I ordered some paper-covered wire ribbon from Amazon and I’m making these litle pumpkins as place cards for each setting at my October tea party with friends. I added a couple little leaves to the top, and I’ll put a small name tag on the curlique. Thanks for sharing. Thisis my first experience using this paper ribbon.
