DIY Vintage Gift Tags For Treat Bags

It’s never to early to think about small gifts to make for teachers, co-workers, neighbors and friends. I love adding a personal touch to a gift whether it’s store-bought or homemade.  DIY vintage gift tags for treat bags are the perfect way to add a special touch and your friends are sure to notice.

Tags For Treat Bags

The secret to making vintage looking gift tags is using recycled Christmas cards. I must admit I save cards every year. Some have amazing art work and graphics that are too pretty to part with and then there are the sentimental ones I can’t throw away.  Now I’m putting them to good use and sharing them with others.

I using a circle punch to make gift tags, but don’t let that stop your creativity because other shapes will work too.  A scalloped circle or scallop square punch would be so pretty, and will allow you to capture different artwork or graphics from Christmas cards.

Of course you can also created the gift tags by cutting them out by hand, but I prefer the smooth round edge of the paper punch. It’s still homemade but looks professional.

Supplies For Gift Tags

• Christmas cards
• Circle paper punch
• Hole punch
• Colored cotton string
• Cellophane bags

Create he round tags using a circle paper punch, and a hole punch for the colored string to go through. Simple as that! Think of all the wonderful greeting card designs that can be reused to add a bit of sparkle to a gift.

Treat Bag Ideas

• Chocolate covered pretzels
• Sand Tart Cookies
• Mini Rum Cakes
• Bourbon Candied Pecans
• Lemon Lime Scones
• White Candied Popcorn (bonus recipe below)

White Candy coated Popcorn

• 1 large bag of popcorn 4.4 oz.
• 1 bag red and green m&ms 11.4 oz.
• 1 bag white melting chips 12 oz.
• Sea salt (optional)

Spread popcorn on a large cookie sheet lined with parchment paper for easy clean-up. Melt white chips according to the directions on the label. Once the chips are melted, mix with popcorn and m&m candies. Sprinkle with sea salt over popcorn mixture and place the cookie sheet in the fridge for about 30 minutes. This will allow the white candy coating to harden.

One batch is enough to fill twelve treat bags shown.

Food for thought:  If you don’t have plastic gloves for food prep, use plastic baggies over your hands. They work like a mitt, to help mix up the popcorn, melted white chips and m&ms. It cuts down on the mess, and it’s a healthier way to handle food.
