I’m so happy to share an easy DIY mirror makeover with you, along with some guest room updates. This cute mirror is one of my recent thrifting finds, and with a little paint it looks pretty fab over the guest bed. Don’t you just love a good upcycle project? Me too!
Easy DIY Mirror Makeover
Mirrors can be so expensive, so when you find one you like at the right price, you better snag it while you can. Don’t worry if you don’t know what you’re going to do with it, because you can always figure that out later.
This mirror is a good size for what I have in mind, and I like the overall detail of the sunburst design. I feel like winner after stumbling over this cute mirror, and bringing it home.
You may not believe it, but this is one of my easiest makeovers ever. Here’s a list of supplies for this project.
- acrylic craft paint
- craft brush
- screwdriver
- painters tape (optional)
- cloth or paper towels
- Before starting be sure to protect your work area from paint.
- Wipe down the frame to remove dust with a damp cloth or paper towel for a clean paint surface.
- Remove the back with a screwdriver, or use painters tape to protect the mirror. (I decided to remove the back and the mirror before painting.)
- After removing the back and mirror, apply one coat of acrylic craft paint to the frame, and allow it to dry before applying the second coat.
- Once the paint is dry, replace the back, and admire your quick work.
Easy Guest bedroom Updates
You may remember our guest room from last year in my post, Simple Fall Bedroom Ideas, if not click over for a quick look. I’m switching things around for summer, and bringing in blue and navy accents to go with the navy mirror frame.
If you don’t already know this about me, I’m just a little partial to blue and especially navy. 😉
I’m adding a vintage blue transferware platter and a nautical art print over the side table.
On another wall I have a vintage beach postcard in a navy frame, which is another upcycle painting project. Above that is a mini abstract canvas from Lindsay Letters Co.
A funny little vintage parrot sits on a navy striped box for some lively color. In case you don’t know, this is a porcelain vase frog for the center of a flower arrangement (circa 1950s). How fun is that?!
I love mixing old and new accessories for a collected look, and somehow everything seems to work together.
On the bed I’m using a Euro sham pillow cover with a navy and white nautical toile print, from the other guest room. I think I like it even better in here.

I love the nautical feel of this mirror now that you’ve transformed it. Great job.
Thank you Rachel! I first wanted to paint it white but the navy is really fun in this room!
That came out so cute!! Would you believe I was just in my basement looking at old mirrors to see if there was anything I could update!
Thanks Jennifer! The mind of a blogger never rests LOL! I hope you found something to inspire you!
