To officially kick off the first week of fall, I’m thrilled to be sharing our cozy fall living room tour with you. This year’s fall decor includes subtle additions with warm wood tones, neutral patterns, pops of green and cozy textures.
Celebrating Fall Home Tours
I’m so happy to be joining the Celebrating Fall Home Tours, hosted by my friend Leen of Sand Dollar Lane. We have 24 bloggers sharing tons of fall decorating ideas with a new group joining in each day. I’m jumping in on day three, so you’ll want to check back tomorrow and Friday to see how everyone is decorating for fall.
You’ll find all the links at the end of this post.
Are you stopping by from Hearth and Vine? If so welcome to Thistle Key Lane. Patti’s fall outdoor color combinations are always so beautiful.
Cozy Fall Living Room Tour
This fall I’m focusing on easy ways to cozy up our living room. So I’m sharing how I’m decorating with pops of green, new pillow patterns, warm wood tones and a variety of textures.
Styling The Ottoman For Fall
Styling the ottoman is always a good place to start, because it takes center stage. I enjoy using an oversized natural wood tray for displaying small arrangements and accessories. The medium wood tones also contrast nicely with the light tan houndstooth fabric.
Of course I have to have a pumpkin or two for fall, and either fresh flowers or some type of greenery.
There are so many flowers to choose from at the grocery store this time of year, but I couldn’t resist these beautiful rose hips. What can I say, sometimes I venture outside my comfort zone and try something different.
I have no idea what flowers to mix with rose hips, however clippings from my backyard work just fine to fill out the arrangement. You can tell the berries are just starting to turn, and I think their soft rosy colors are so pretty.
An ironstone plate is an easy spot to display a wood bead garland. This is a quick ten minute craft using left over wood beads, jute string and raffia. To make your own, be sure to check out the tutorial in my post, How To Make Raffia Tassels.
I’m also including a tiny oil painting with autumn colors for a conversation piece.
Mixing Patterns and Textures
On the sofa I’m mixing in some new pillow patterns and colors with ones I already have. Cream and caramel is always a pretty combination for fall, and I’m really loving how these patterns look on the sofa right now.
Other pillows around the room are neutral shades of tan, taupe and cream, which work all year round for me.
We also have an interesting mix of fabrics in the living room which always makes this room feel cozy. The Dark taupe velvet arm chair for example, is the most comfortable for curing up with a good book.
When I want to sneak off and take a nap there’s nothing better than stretching out on the sofa. All five feet and one inch of me. 😉
Decorating With Vintage And Found items
There’s something about decorating with curiosities that lends to the interest and personality of a room. I learned that from my dad due to his love of antiques.
I think there is sense of comfort to be found in vintage and found items knowing they have a past life and stories to tell.
I’m not a big collector of anything in particular. Instead I look for small treasures that are fun to display such as the vintage shoe forms on the end table. They also have that warm wood tone that adds a cozy ingredient to the room.
The secretary desk is my cabinet of curiosities of sorts and also serves as our liquor cabinet. The cubby holes are fun for stashing fossils, shells, flower frogs and small antique books.
On the desk I have a plate full of dried and dyed bottle neck gourds. There’s no doubt I love gourds and I’m always looking for simple ways to display them.
A tall glass vase is an impromptu spot for displaying feathers, a scroll of paper, a vintage pamphlet, leaves and pine cones. As I come across more interesting items, I can drop them in too.
