Today I’m sharing some of my fresh spring ideas for the family room, with a simple arrangement of accessories and flowers. The feeling is light and casual for a relaxing space that we can enjoy through spring and into summer.
Celebrate Spring Home Tour
I’m so happy to be joining my blogging friends, and our host Leen of Sand Dollar Lane for the Celebrate Spring Home Tour. This is day two of the home tours and I’m completely charmed by all the beautiful decor I’m seeing. You will find links to everyone participating in day one and day two at the end of my post.
If you’re stopping by from my friend Sonya Burgess welcome to Thistle Key Lane! Sonya and I both have a love for vintage treasures and thrifted items.
Fresh Spring Ideas For The Family Room
Spring cleaning has taken over my schedule the last few weeks, as I’ve been working on one room at a time. Yep, floor to ceiling and all the windows, but the only bad part is that I can see where all the new dust lands LOL!
The in depth cleaning started in our family room. This comfortable bright space overlooks the patio with large arched windows. It’s also the most relaxed living space in our home.
Freshening Up Spring Decor With Flowers
Decorating with fresh flowers can make any room seem extra special. You know me, I can’t resist buying flowers at the grocery store, especially when the ranunculus start arriving.
I’m using a hurricane candle holder as a vase for this beautiful arrangement. Along with the ranunculus, I’m mixing in white wax flowers and Queen Ann’s lace.
You’ll have to forgive me for taking so many photos, but I really love how the flowers looks from every angle.
Unfortunately the flowers will only last about a week or so, and then I’ll add a green plant in its place.
Mixing Lighter colors and Textures
Small stacks of decorating books take up the rest of the coffee table decor. Books make the perfect landing spots for little treasures or collectables and keep the table looking uncluttered.
The enamel bowl with the pewter surround and the vintage silver rimmed bowl belonged to my mom. It’s funny how some things never change, I enjoy displaying them on my coffee table too.
The white coral was a little keepsake we found on our honeymoon, thirty something years ago. It seems like only yesterday when we were lounging on the beach sipping Chi Chi cocktails. 😊
On the mantel the wicker vase adds a pretty textural element, and I also like the curvy shape.
I love faux flowers, such as the paper daisies in the wicker vase. They are far from looking real, but I think their wispy petals are pretty and they make me smile.
more spring ideas for the family room
Looking for more spring ideas for the family room? Sometimes one new item or just rearranging accessories can give a space a whole new look and feel.
Usually I just shop my home for seasonal changes, but this spring I do have a one new accessory. A white nubby pillow on the brown arm chair lightens this side of the room.
The mantel has a few updates since my Fresh and Airy Spring Mantel post. A quick rearranging of accessories on the right side creates a better balance with a white vase, instead of the vintage lantern.
Did you notice the delicate looking flower garland? It’s a recent clay project, and you can get all the details by clicking on my post DIY Clay Flower Garland.
By the way the topiary on the mantel is another one of my craft projects. See my post, How To Make A Faux Topiary for an easy to follow tutorial.
Decorating with Green Plants
My fresh spring ideas for the family room also includes decorating with green plants. I really can’t take credit for our thriving house plants. Of course I water them, but my loving care can’t compete with this room’s southern exposure.
Our fig tree and the philodendron are both so happy in here, so I dare not move them anywhere else. In fact the philodendron is starting to taking over the bar cart right now.
In other parts of the house that don’t have as much natural light, I either use plants like the peace lily, pothos or faux plants.
The springtime wreath on the chalkboard is a craft project from last year. The paper flowers and carrot garland are not actually glued on, so I’m trying to think of a way to change it up it up for late spring or summer. Any suggestions?
For details on how to make the wreath click on my post, Spring Burlap and Carrot Wreath.
Just for fun I’m including some views from the family room into the the kitchen and breakfast area. From here you can see the navy blue wall that wraps around to the foyer. The color is Navel by Sherwin Williams and one of my favorite color additions to our home.
