Handcrafted Society
It’s time for our Handcrafted Society monthly get together, hosted by Wendy of WM Design House. If you’re wondering what the Handcrafted Society is all about. Simply put, it’s a group of bloggers who share a love for handcrafted items. We challenge ourselves each month to take an assigned medium or theme to create whatever our heart desires.
This month we have eleven bloggers sharing spring door decor, and I’m so excited to see such a fun variety of projects and styles. Be sure to check out all the links, and photos at the end of my post for everyone participating this month.

Spring Flowers Door Basket
Spring is arriving a little earlier this year, so it’s time to get out the door baskets and fill them with color. Our front porch is needing some attention, and I’m so eager to decorate.
Our local nursery is just starting to get in their seasonal flowers, so for now we only have a Boston fern and one big geranium on the porch. In a couple of weeks though, I hope to have lots of happy colors. For now we’re going to welcome guests with spring flowers in door baskets.
We replaced our single door with double doors almost two years ago, and we’re still absolutely in love them. The best part about having double doors is that I get to decorate two instead of one. Twice the fun!
Supplies
Here’s what you will need to create a spring basket for your door.
- door basket
- floral foam blocks
- knife
- faux flowers picks
- faux greenery picks
- wire cutters
- ribbon
- scissors
Start by placing a couple of foam blocks inside your basket, which will hold all your greenery and flowers in place. You may need to trim them down a little to fit the shape of your basket.
I find that placing the greenery in the basket first, works best for me. If your greenery stems are too long you can shorten them with wire cutters. The long stems of the greenery I’m using were cut in half before inserting them into the foam.
Once the faux greenery is in place, then I start adding the flowers. For a fuller and more natural looking arrangement, I remove the flower stems from the pick bases with wire cutters. Now I have individual flowers, that I can arrange and space as I wish.
I love the variety of colors in this floral bush with coral, pink, and blue. It also has interesting shapes of greenery in the mix which adds to the fullness of the arrangement.
By the way, the baskets I’m using are 10″ tall (not counting the handle) and about 8″ wide. For each basket I’m using one small and two larger greenery picks, plus two floral bushes. Click here for a basket similar to ones I’m using.
The last step before hanging your wreath on the door is to add some ribbon. I’m partial to gingham, and I’m loving how this navy and white ribbon looks with these spring colored flowers.
Decorating Double Doors
When decorating double doors you’ll want your wreaths or baskets to match or at least as close as possible. I have to admit my baskets are not exactly mirror images, because the greenery differs slightly. I usually try to recycle what I have on hand before buying new picks, and I’m sure you’ll agree it feels good to save money on projects.

The spring flower door baskets look so pretty from the sidewalk, and now all I need are some flowering pots. I think our front porch is off to a good start, and our curb appeal is definitely improving.
