Rustic Easter Candle Arrangement
I’m a huge admirer of simple holiday decorations, and have been longing to make an egg carton arrangement. Every time I see one of these pop up on Pinterest, I fall in love with the idea over and over again. Some have eggs holding tiny potted flowers with soil, some have hand pour candles, and some have moss, sticks, feathers and dried florals. I love them all!
Now, I’m happy to finally share my version of an egg carton arrangement with the easiest egg candles you can make. Here’s a list of supplies to gather.
Supplies And Shopping links
- egg shells (clean and dry)
- paper egg carton
- deer moss, Spanish moss
- small flowers or clippings
- tea light candles
- foraged sticks, tree bark, rocks, feathers etc
Creating An Easter Candle Arrangement
I’m starting with the bottom portion of a paper egg carton with a little bit of dried Spanish moss in each section. I always buy eggs that come in paper egg cartons for recycling purposes. However other types of egg cartons will work too.
You can play around with different types of moss to see what you like best. Preserved sheet moss, deer moss and green Spanish moss will all look pretty adding natural color and texture.
I’ve been collecting eggs shells for the last few weeks, washing and allowing them to air dry. Keep in mind when you are cracking eggs for cooking or baking, to break some on the end, for taller vases. You can use any color eggs you have available. I’m using mostly brown, a pink and a couple of blue heirloom eggs.
To create egg candles I’m simply placing a tea light candle into a shell. Quick and easy right?! You can remove the candle from the plastic or metal holder is you wish. I decided to leave the candle in the plastic holder. That way when the candle burns down, I can remove the holder and add another.
In the arrangement, I’m using four egg shell candles, and four egg shell vases leaving some spaces empty. Add water if you are using fresh flowers, then place a few clippings and blooms in the eggs.
The last additions are little twigs, tree bark, pussy willow and deer moss. You can also add little found items such as feathers, sea shells, rocks or rusty bits. I’m thinking kids would love to help with a project like this one.
Make sure you don’t have anything hanging over the candles. For example, you can use scissors to trim any Spanish moss that is too close to a candle. The last thing you want is your little arrangement to go up in flames. Of course once you light the candles, do not leave them unattended. Safety first always!
Egg Carton Variations
You can also create smaller versions of this arrangement by cutting your egg cartons in half or in three sections. I think a rustic Easter candle arrangement would make a lovely hostess gift. You can also place a mini arrangement at each place setting on your Easter table to delight your family and guests.
