July 4th Patio Tablescape. See how to create a patio tablescape with a little patriotic flare. I’m sharing how to group vintage items and flowers, plus a mix of red, white and blue for a festive summer celebration.
Pinterest Challenge
It’s time for our June Pinterest challenge, and this month we are turning out attention to patriotic decor. If this is your first time to join us for a Pinterest challenge, this is how it works. Our host Cindy over at County Road 407, selects a photo for us to recreate, and each participant puts their own spin on the photo.
If you’re popping over from South House Designs, welcome to Thistle Key Lane. I adore Diane’s patriotic porch. How about you?
Click here to see last year’s June PC post which has lots of last minute ideas for July 4th decorating.
The inspiration photo for this month is from Worthing Court. Suzy’s screened in porch is so inviting with light shades of blue and patriotic accents. Oh to have a large porch for entertaining and relaxing must be such a delight.
July 4th Patio Tablescape
Right off the bat, I’m spotting four things from Suzy’s photo, that I can use in a July 4th patio tablescape.
- stars and stripes
- cute vintage truck
- metal lantern with a candle
- red flowers and greenery
I always give myself a little pat on the back when I can use what I already have around the house for our challenges. The only thing I don’t have is a porch. So I’m taking these decorating elements to the patio.
In the late afternoon we have good shade on the patio plus a big umbrella to help keep the table cool. Our backdrop is a tall holly hedge that works as a sound barrier across the back fence. Perfect for eating al fresco!
Creating A Centerpiece
To create my centerpiece I’m starting off with a blue and white tablecloth folded, to use as a table runner. Now I can build from there adding my accent pieces.
Red Kalanchoes, which are flowering succulent plants, brings in a big pop of red to the table. These heat loving plants, that fit right in with our Texas summer weather. You can click here for the post on how to decorated a flower pot like the one I’m using in the centerpiece.
Adding Vintage Accents
A navy star bolt, and a 1950’s Tonka Toys truck look pretty cute in the mix. I have to admit, I would not have thought of using a toy truck without seeing Suzy’s inspiration photo. I love using something that is unexpected, plus the truck will make a fun conversation piece.
For some height I’m using a vintage lantern with striped ribbon for another pop of red. I’m loving how these pieces are working together and now I have a one of a kind centerpiece.
Patriotic Starts And Stripes
Displaying American flags is probably the easiest way to decorate for July 4th. It’s takes no effort at all to display small flags in a vase or jar.
Larger flags inserted into my potted flowers extend the festive look to the surrounding patio wall. Just look how well they show up in front of the dark green hedge. How easy is that?
The rest of the table is set with navy placemats, napkins and bamboo melamine dishes. When I was gathering everything to bring outdoors I decided to use a flower pot lined with a bandana to hold the flatware. Easy peasy!
Be sure to follow Thistle Key Lane on Pinterest, where the boards are up to date with my favorite seasonal inspiration.
Now I’m sending you over to French Ethereal to see how Barb is decorating her patio for July 4th. Be sure to continue clicking through the links below to visit everyone participating in this month’s PC.
Cheers!
