Handcrafted Society
The Handcrafted Society challenge this month is focusing on paper stationery that feels like art. Think of creating something that express your personality, and that the recipient will want to keep or display.

Handmade Collage Note Cards
These days receiving a handwritten “thank you” note or “thinking of you” letter is extra special. My mom’s generation sent thank you notes all the time, and not just for gifts. Any special get together such as dinner parties, luncheons, or to acknowledge a meeting hostess was followed up with a thank you note. What a fabulous way to show appreciation and gratitude. So next time you want brighten up someones day, why not send them a handmade collage note card to indicate, I think you are exceptional.
Supplies
- blank note cards with envelopes
- watercolor paints and brushes
- watercolor or mixed media paper
- scissors
- white school glue
Step-By-Step
Every time I scroll through social media I see lots of collage art projects, so I’m combining those ideas with my love of flowers. To create a floral collage arrangement, I will start with a vase, then add stems leaves and flowers. I bought a small packet of 10 plain white note cards with envelopes. The folded note cards measure 4.25 in. x 5.5 in.
My first step is painting a simple vase or vessel with watercolor (you can use markers). Next paint long lines for stems, leaves of different shapes and round blobs for flowers. (Note to self: As I continue to make more collages I will be adding more details with watercolors. Also, if I plan out the shapes of petals and leaves first, that will make cutting out the pieces easier.)
When your watercolor is dry you can cut out your shapes. Fair warning, since this project requires a lot of cutting, make sure you have good sharp scissors.
Once you have your flower arrangement pieces cut out you can play around with how you want to layer them before glueing in place. I like to start with by glueing the vase first then before the glue drys insert the stems. Then you can add your leaves and flowers last.
Remember your collage can be any type of flower in any color you imagine. For me, I think the tea cup is probably my favorite vase, and the daisies are my favorite flower. I could make those all day! For more floral collage ideas check out my post Mixed Media Art With Pressed Flowers.
