Sometimes it’s hard to stray from a classic margarita on the rocks, but if you do, try a Paloma. It’s is so refreshing and of course delicious with its mix of sweet and sour flavors.
There are shortcuts you can take when mixing up a Paloma, but take it from me, fresh squeezed juice is the key. I mean if you’re going to use a premium quality tequila in your cocktail, then use fresh juice as well.
Paloma Cocktail Recipe
- 2 oz. reposado tequila
- 2 oz. fresh grapefruit juice
- 1/4 oz. fresh lime juice
- 1/2 oz. simple syrup
- 2 oz. sparkling water
- wedge of grapefruit for garnish

- Optional – take a wedge of lime and run it around the rim of a tall glass. Invert the glass into a shallow bowl or saucer of salt or tajin seasoning.
- Add ice to the glass.
- Pour over ice the tequila, grapefruit juice, lime juice, simple syrup and sparkling water. Give a quick stir if needed.
- Garnish with a wedge of grapefruit.
Recipe Notes
I’m presenting this Paloma recipe with two options. Instead of a wedge of fresh grapefruit, I’m using a half slice of dehydrated grapefruit. I think it makes such a pretty presentation, don’t you think so too?!
I got the idea from one of my favorite restaurants a few weeks ago, and just had to try it at home. For instructions on dehydrating citrus fruits see my post, How To Dry Orange Slices.

The other option is rimming the glass with salt or Tajin seasoning. If you’re not familiar with Tajin, it’s a mix of ground dried chili peppers, dehydrated lime and sea salt. Think of chili lime chips. Yum!!
I’m also serving these Paloma cocktails in these cute glasses with rattan sleeves. They look so festive, I think they are ready for a party! You can find similar glasses here.
If you want to update your bar supplies I have some suggestions for you. This jigger is the type many professional bartenders use. I have these cocktail stirring spoons on my list to buy next. You will find these cocktail napkins make a lovely gift. This juicer with a measuring cup is similar to mine.
