DIY Garden Tool Caddy

If you like repurposing and recycling projects, then you’re going to love my DIY garden tool caddy. When I go thrifting I try to look for items that are multifunctional. I like to imagine all the ways I can use vintage things for practical and decorative purposes alike.

For the next few weeks I’ll be planting lots of flowers and this little garden tool caddy is going to come in pretty handy. I’m starting out with zinnias in the backyard sunny areas and impatiens in shady spots around the front door.

Planting a variety of flowers each year is a lot of fun and I like to see what flowers will work the best. Half of my pentas didn’t make it through our summer heat last year, so I’m counting on zinnias for a pretty show.

We also had lots of freeze damage from our sub-zero temps from the late winter storm. As you can image our landscape needs some extra attention.

DIY Garden Tool Caddy

With just a few modifications my thrifted bottle holder is ready for tools and a few other necessities. My main objective is to save time by getting organized first, and a tool caddy is the solution.

To keep small items from falling out between the wires, I”m using some little chip wood berry baskets. I was so glad to see that they fit into the wire sections, but I could also use recycled cans or plastic drink cups.

To give the garden caddy just a little bit of pizzaz I’m covering each berry basket with fabric. I have a stash of these berry baskets to use for all kinds of things.

Place a small square of fabric with the print side down, then place the berry basket on top at a diagonal. Fold each corner into the basket and that is it.

Since I may want to recycle the berry baskets for future projects, I did not glue the fabric in place.

Here’s a list of what I’m loading into my garden tool caddy, but I’ll probably be coming up with a few more items. One thing I’ve learned is to have more than one pair of gardening gloves especially when digging in wet soil.

Truth be told, I actually forgot about the plant food, but luckily the mister came to my rescue.
